I am thinking of doing a cathode follower in this next amp.. Non HRM pretty much like 124.. Anyone done a CF PI in this topology and is it worth it...
Thanks Tony VVT

Re: Cathode Follower PI worth it
Do you mean a cathodyne PI? The one that only uses one triode? There is an article on Aiken amps about the cathodyne PI. It has less gain than a long-tail PI. And you'll now have an extra triode...do you have a need for an extra triode? TBH I would stick with a long-tail PI but it might be worth a shot.

No I heard Dumble did several ODS with a cathode follower driving the output section like in some of the SSS.. I thought a rumor here was Dumble did a 150 Watt ODS with this configuration..
Just don't know if it would work well with the OD section....
Tony VVT..

Re: Cathode Follower PI worth it
In my Fender that I converted to ODS specs I have twin CF's between the PI and output tubes. It is 'existing topology' but it sounds great. My impression is that you don't need it unless you have 6 output tubes.
It is a little different than the SVT (and Dumble?) because it uses coupling caps after the CF.

If you do a search for ODS 75W you'll find a thread where a couple forum members discuss ODS style amps they built w/CFs in the PI...
