I just implemented the VVR in a fixed bias amp. two 6v6's, wreck style front end. I believe it is installed and working properly, voltages track as expected.
I am reducing the voltage to the entire circuit.
It does take a second for the voltage to stabilize after adjusting. I guess my main issue is, and I should have expected this, the distortion increases and it's gets dark and a bit muddy sounding. Except for minor reductions, which are barely noticeable. I was hoping for a more transparent effect. What are others finding.
BTW, the quality and design are second to none.

The voltages do take a second to stabalize. This is because the caps are discharging slower that you are turning the knob and this is normal. I don't think your distortion should be increasing when regulating the whole amp. This is not my experience. as far as sounding dark or muddy sounding. Hi Dana,
I have only tried a 2x12 cab so far. If the distortion should not increase then I do have a problem. The amp sounds good , only when I turn the voltage down does it start to " Brown Out" . I only just got it working so I may have a few bugs.

Well my bad. I did some tube swapping and rechecked the bias. Also, I did not have a knob on the pot so I think I was really turning it down more than I thought. Below 11 o'clock is when it starts misbehavin. It does get darker, but I think the 6v6's have alot to do with that too.

No problem Billy. It definately shouldn't have been working as you described. My next suggestion was going to be to check your bias. I have had a few people not have the voltage on full when they set thier bias and then when they cranked the voltage to max the were overbiased and caused the amp to be a little lacking. Glad you got it sorted out and just let me know if you need help with anything. And you are right about them all being different ("individuals") Kind of like kidsbillyz wrote:Well my bad. I replaced the two resistors with 330k and I like it better. I think I might even go to 470k.

Noise is not a problem. I used them bad old caps too. Sounds real nice.

on the VVR board resistors R1 and R5 I believe. Dana gives a very detailed installation tutorial with the Board. Also, describes how to change these resistors to adjust the bottom range of voltage drop.
