A Few Express Clips

Post by strato17 »

I decided to make a few quick video clips today just to prove to you guys that the thing actually works! :D The hiss in the recording is mostly from the A/C and the fan that was on in the room... The amp seems to have a normal amount of hiss.

Please excuse the crappy recording and sloppy playing

Holy Fu%k....

If that's sloppy playing, I need just put the bloody guitar down....

Dude, your amp sounds (and looks) fantastic..... you did well!!

At some point, you, TXBluesBoy and I should have a North TX Trainwreck seminar... if you can stand an old git who is way out of practice....

Thanks for the great clips. That is some excellent playing through an amp that sounds awesome. I really am amazed how many people have never heard of a Trainwreck. Man they are missing out. I would love to hear more clips. What kind of guitar are you playing?

I am playing my '69 ES335 through a Evidence Audio Lyric HG cable. I just got the cable in today, and I am VERY impressed. The top end is really sweet, not harsh like my George L's were.

I still need to tweak the amp a little. I have had a few problems with microphonic tubes and tube rattle. Any new production 12AX7(atleast the ones I have tried) are all way too microphonic to work in V1. I tried a long plate Sylvania in that spot. The tone was great, but it also was a bit too microphonic. I have a short plate Sylvania that works in V1, but itsnt as sweet sounding. I also have a Brimar which is extremely low in microphonics ans sounds pretty good. Right now, I have a Mullard in there. It is low in microphonics, and sounds GREAT, but I think it has a little tube rattle.

You cant quite tell on the video, but when I sustain a long note, it isnt as super smooth as Glen's real wreck. There is a little bit of intermittent noise. I think it might be a tube problem?

Sounds killer..at about 1:27 I like how the rays of light all of a sudden show up - as if someone / something from above is approving

I used new production Tung Sols in V1-V3 on the 2 wrecks I've built, and I was pretty happy with them. No microphonics and decent tone- granted a nice NOS tube would likely be better, but that's a minor car payment's investment.....

I love that tone before the high gain really comes on -- rich, organic, just all kinds of tasty. I'd buy an amp for just that sound.

I know! I think that might be my favorite part of the recording. If only you could hear it in person. The "clean" side of this amp is just UNREAL. What really turned me on to it is the super sweet clean sounds Mr. Kuykendall gets on his "Can You Hear It Ring" youtube clip. They are just super lush and rich sounding.

By the way, I picked up GK's CD, and it has been on repeat in my car for about a week now. Looks like I have some licks to steal :D

Thanks! I have a good friend who has a sweet home studio setup, including ProTools HD3. I am going to see if I can bring the amp over to his place one of these days and do some real recordings.
