Another April fools Express

Post by Jeph »

Yah, a day late (actually it was done at about 1:30 last night (2:30!)) so I just missed being a member of the April Fools Club  So, who's going to join me with an April 2nd power up?
With the "test" tubes I have in it now it sounds great, can't wait to get a little time this afternoon to play a bit with some old stuff from the 'sarge. I also need to get another faceplate made. I'm going to be real happy with this amp for a long time! I'll get a clip or two up when I can. For now, here's a couple pics.

Looks like everyone lost more than 1 hours sleep last night. Very nice!!!
What wood and stain did you use for your cab? Polyurethane or ???

Thanks Dana. Yeah, when I went to bed at 2 I remembered it was really 3. For some reason my kid still got up way too early ;) I used Zinsser amber & clear shellac on the cab. I had plenty left over from doing my tweed champ and figured I'd give it a try.

I wanted to put it in a place that'd allow me to read the #s on the knob and access the knob easily. I guess it could have been placed closer to the board, but then again, it could have be placed farther away as well ;)

Nice job Jeph, I gave up at 3:00 a.m. (4:00 a.m. I remembered when I went to bed) with about 5 wires left. I couldn't see with the rosin in my eyes. I'll finish today and you and I will be in the April 2nd club.

Jeph, if you use a dremel tool and cut 1/4" of the pot shafts the knobs will line up perfectly.

Great job!!!

Now we can start obsessing about Ginger!

I ran home today during lunch to get a quick clip down. I can't believe I'm going to post this crap playing all over the 'net but, whatever. The amp has Philips 6v6s in it, and was run through a single 12" (Hellatone) closed back cab. The guitar is a "tele-gib" with Timbuckers. I have a ~97k/3k split plate load in, so no neighbors were hurt during the recording of this. Clean to dirty, all done with the vol on the guitar. The amp is quite a bit more agressive with EL34s in, I'll probably stick with the 34s once I get the 4x12cab done.

Hi Jeph congrats on being the first to post clips. There is a huge difference in the 6V6's and the EL34's. When I play mine...I'm feel like calling the cops on myself!

We should get together and try both cranked. We can do that in my amp celler. I have two matching 4X12's with G12-65's and can do a comparison. 8)
