6L6s generally operate in the 40-50ma range, correct?

I've been jonesin' to build something ever since I registered in '06, and any way I could cut price (obviously I consider my labor as being worth nothing :D) without sacrificing tone I'll take, as I'm newly married and not finished with school (READ: dirt poor).

I'll be the first to admit that this is one of the dumbest projects for a first build, and even dumber to scratch build it, but I figure if I can get this to come out I'll be ready for anything.

In any case, thanks for the kind words.

I'm not looking at a tube manual but IIRC max at full signal is around 150ma per tube before meltdown.

So you're saying I can't melt the resistors without blowing the tubes first?? DAMN DAMN DAMN!

As heisthl has shown, at idle the current is not that high. I wonder about the peaks and valleys of voltage and current during operation with an AC signal (just asking, I don't know).

I guess we should ask heisthl how big of a resistor he uses on his amps ;)

For me, I'm a 'monkey-see-monkey-do' type so I'll be using 5W.

Heisthl is the MAN

Post by benoit »

So... I thought my chassis was just too thick for faceplates. Good thing for me, I was completely WRONG! Heisthl took my visio drawings (which I figured were just wishful thinking) and printed some fantastic looking stick-on faceplates. I've been busy lately so I just got them attached. It was a pain because I'd already installed the XLR footswitch jack, which mounts to the outside - I had to completely desolder  It's all done now, and the thing looks pretty ok!

So thanks a bunch Heisthl.. without further ado, the pictures:

Fine looking amp - where do you get the XLR connector on the back - is it a switchcraft?

Nice looking build!

Very cool of Heisthl to hook you up with the faceplates. They look great.

Looks great, but why would you call the level control ratio? It is level since it is also a master. Ratio was a non HRM term.

Unless this is now a non HRM... ;)

It would bother my obsessive compulsive psychosis.... LOL
