what does a trainwreck sound like? Songs/guitarists

Post by sidehatch »

I am very familiar with the dumble but not the wreck.

Can you point m to some players and songs that use the trainwreck?

Thanks

Great clips, I think I like the #2 clip with the LP best. I've listened to that one a bunch of times and that one has some mojo.

I produced a couple of sessions for this band, and used an Express on the song, 'I Don't Believe You,' at their MySpace page. (Warning: some song or another will start automatically.)

Most of the rest of that record was a Liverpool, but I don't think there are any clips of it there.

Seeing this thread, I had to pull out my GK CD so I could hear it ring again last night. Really this man shouldn't have to plug his own stuff because its that good that any of the rest of us could do it for him. The harmonized melodies on the first track always just send me... Fave track has got to be "Wrong Side..." though. Was that the Callaham Strat, Glen, on "Wrong side...", or the new Fender '57?

What else can I say... The CD cost 10 bucks, and arrived in less than a week. The recording is very professional. The sounds on it are fantastic, great music, and a great job of dedicating it to tape. Glen is great with the strings and Mr. Conley is great on the drums. For an amp enthusiast, this disc is really exciting to hear.

If you want to hear some Wreck sounds that aren't squished MP3s, drop the hammer on one of Glen's CDs, you won't regret it.

CONGRATULATIONS on the endorsement, too. Bout time I see someone besides MTV artists get an endorsement...Awesome.

You get my endorsement too  Whatever that's worth...

Glenn stuff is great and I enjoy it very much. I do need to get his CD soon.

He also has built some stunning clones of his own Wrecks, so he is also an accomplished builder too.

Anyway, I have a 3 nice tunes on my site that were done by a local pro Terry Hiatt. He is using one of my amps that is a take on the Liverpool with some tweaks. Still very Wreck like though.

Check them out here: http://tonicamps.com/Media.html

They're at the bottom of the page.

Yeah, I first heard Glen's stuff a few weeks ago. It's wonderful the way he controls the guitar and amp: I keep going back to the videos and trying to pick up smaller nuances of finger technique, but the fingers are better than the YouTube quality, alas.

Found another Wreck track, btw. This was a different band, but the same Express. I did drums, one of the guitars, and the vocals (circa 1989-90, age 21 or so). The playing isn't so stellar, but the medium-old SG Standard and 4x12 Marshall greenback cab worked really perfectly with the head, especially with the gain rolled off to sort of a controllable roar.

(It cuts off about 3/4 through the song, but that's more than enough to get the basic gist.)

I'm convinced at this point that the Trainwreck tone isn't the main thing. An Express can sound a lot like a really good modded Marshall, especially through a mic. What's unique is the controllability, the fact that the amp acts as an extension of the instrument -- the fact that you can roll back or nastify the gain just by finger pressure...

I posted a few videos of a band using the junkyard wreck[wreck express made of junk parts].. sound quality is not very good ,taken from a video camera at a live gig, but you can get an idea. It was very loud.. and you can see the crowd react to the lead playing..

guitar player is using an 18 watt marshall, and junkyard mostly for the leads.. so he switches between them. And an EJ strat. vox 4x12 cab with older 25 watt celestions, the other guitar player is using a fender deluxe reverb..

The lead player is in a new band now, and i am hoping to get some much better clips using a different express wreck..

I thought they had a very cool groove, but never did get to see them. Is this the same guitarist that has your white 36?

Yes, thats him.. they broke up about a year ago.. Hes got a new band now.

One reason i posted the videos was because some might not have got to see them..and now all anyone will have is a video. I know there are a lot more ,and better recodings out there,if the people who filmed them, would post them.

That's a damn shame!

People throwing away a perfectly good white band.

I remember seeing a much more produced video a long time ago. Is their site still up? Maybe pull it from a mirror site?
