Everything I read suggest that a pair of 6v6's in class AB1 would want to see a plate to plate load of 8K on the output transformer. could I assume that a Vibrolux OT of 4K into 4 ohm would equal a 8K load into 8 ohms ?
I see that Fender used 6.6K load on a Blackface Deluxe reverb, is that the same for a tweed Deluxe ? I have put a Deluxe reverb tranny in an old tweed deluxe and it never sounded better , BTW.
Any advantage to the heavier OT of the Vibrolux at 8 ohms compared to the Deluxe OT in a 6v6 pr amp?

The vibrolux tranny would work fine that way. Since you're not pushing it as hard, it might sound a little more hi-fi-ish than the deluxe tranny. The difference between running at 8k and 6.6k is that the 8k will be a little louder and break up a little later. That will be enhanced with the oversize tranny. The 6.6k will break up a little earlier and will have a 'creamier' sound while the 8k will have more of a grind. Don't know if that helps, but I think either one would work fine.billyz wrote:Everything I read suggest that a pair of 6v6's in class AB1 would want to see a plate to plate load of 8K on the output transformer. could I assume that a Vibrolux OT of 4K into 4 ohm would equal a 8K load into 8 ohms ?

Also, if you use a beefy enough PT and choke(if you use one), you can swap in a pair of 6L6's and double your power with the vibrolux tranny.
Matt.
Re: OT question for 6v6 pair
I've seen primary impedances listed between 6k6 and 8k for a tweed Deluxe OT. Mission Amps uses an 8k where I understand most other 5E3 kits go with the 6k6.
I'm guessing why your 5E3 sounds better with the DR OT is that it's rated for more power (22w vs. 15w?) and probably has better bandwidth and headroom. The Vibrolux OT should probably move things the same way.

Thanks, That is what I thought would happen. Like to hear some confirmation before embarking down that road.
