any interest in Dumbleator II info?

Hi All,

I have a Dumbleator II in my posession for a bit, and I was wondering if anyone here is interested in what makes it go-

Before I take the time I want to Dispell some current misconceptions about exactly what it is and is NOT:

1) it IS a mono in, mono send, Stereo Return, stereo output unit.
2) it is NOT a unit that operates in series or paralell.

Since we see very few people running stereo rigs anymore I simply wonder if this is useful to anyone.

If it Is I'll post pics and a schematic.

But do you really need a stereo return unit for W/D/W?

If I were setting it up I would use a buffered send to my "way overrpriced processor" and take the balanced outs from the processor to the power amp. For me the return side would never get used.

Brandon, I'd love to hear more. If I ever get my amps built I want to run a setup similar to Larry's where I mic a dry cab and run efx separate.

you are correct, you wouldn't need the stereo to do wet dry wet-

Andy Fuchs had a rig like this at the ampfest. Not sure the details but he had 3 cabinets and a triple drive hooked up. Amazing huge wide field of sound, especally on the clean side but also damn nice on the OD side. I haven't seen this show up on his site yet, I'm fairly sure he had some type of preamp off the effect loop. Very cool.

I've tried a few things to duplicate this sound, but unsuccessfully. I connected the send of the D-Lator to a mixer connected to my studio monitors. Pretty good on clean but terrible on OD. I also tried coming out of the D-Lator into a Quadraverb and into the PA, again not great on the OD side.

I want to try the D-Lator into a stereo effect into a stereo power amp but haven't had the time.


Oh... and I'm very interested in the D-Lator II.

Was this intended for use with the rack mount preamp and poweramp stuff HAD made? I can only imagine how great this would be with 2 identical D style power amps following a nice chorus/delay effect.

To get the w-d-w thing to work without using a mic the wet side needs to go though guitar speakers, or possibly a cabinet emulator first before PA speakers.

That's why I figure a power amp wil do the trick. I have an old Crown DC150 that should do the trick.

I have an old Peavey (yes peavey) 60/60 tube power amp that I have kept in reserve for just such an application.

First installment:

Has a choke, 10H 500 ohms 50mA, then it has the 15K resistor.

the original intended primary voltage is 115, so the known voltages are off from what was intended-

How it works:

the first tube is a paralell Cathode follower! 820r resistor, 10K to ground, 1uf coupling cap! 10K audio pot on that stage as well

return stage is standard values, but all the caps are .1uf.

So the FB cap is a .1uf on both return stages?
