Gretsch 6162 Question
I have an Amp I bought in 1965/1966 that is a G6162. 4 inputs, 2 channels, Tremolo w/remote, no reverb, twin Jenson special design 10" speakers, 3 12ax7s, 2 6973 finals 5u4 rect. tubes. The schematics I found for a 6162 all have a reverb. Any other models have 1 speaker. Any thoughts or a schematic with out the reverb?

Re: Gretsch 6162 Question
I worked on one of those, just as you described this last winter. I had no luck finding a scheme. Seems that Valco built them as they saw them in those days. Gretsch says send some more of those two speaker amps, only no reverb this time.

Dug some more
Got home from work and checked around, they must mix and match,as they go. Circuit for Supro s6424 http://www.schematicheaven.com/bargainb ... _s6424.pdf looks more like it and mine does have a 5y3 rect. not the 5u4 I thought, but has the t-6528 as in the 6162 schematic, to go with the 2-10 speakers. Oh, I stood on my head and there is a 3rd smaller speaker tucked up top of those. Maybe the only difference in the Supro is the output transformer from the 6162???
Thanks for the reply.

Re: Gretsch 6162 Question
Yeah, third speaker. Tweedle thing I guess. Has it got problems or are you just re-capping. They don't get much simpler.

Re: Gretsch 6162 Question
I used to have that amp with reverb. Picked it up at a GC store after it had been languishing in a dark corner for many years.
Great amp, I rather regret having sold it, but I never saw a schematic or layout for the non-reverb version. Sorry.

Re: 6162
If you are going to keep the amp then you might consider finding the closest schematic and then modifying it to represent your amp. It is some work, but you will really get know the innards well, and heck, when it breaks, you are going to have to trace all those wires anyway to fix itgahult wrote:Not doing anything to it. Its all original. Just want to get some documentation on it before it's not around. Still ticking, sounds good. Thanks for the replies. I'll check back again.

I could not find a matching schematic for my 6V6 Valco/Gretch so I just made my own. BTW, I have both a blackface and tweed Champ and the Gretsch sounds better!
