#124, pre-Skyliner 1984 version with DEEP schemataic
Here is another schematic I had been working on. It shows how the JAZZ/ROCK, DEEP and PAB are wired (thanks to Gill).
I put it up for discussion here. I am getting ready to put all the info I have collected on #124 in a thread in the files section.

Couple of thoughts:ic-racer wrote:Here is another schematic I had been working on. It shows how the JAZZ/ROCK, DEEP and PAB are wired (thanks to Gill).

1. The level control MUST HAVE been 100KL before the mod. Dumble most likley plucked out the 250KA pot from the bass and used it on the Mids, and the one from the Treble and used it on the Level -- or the other way round as fas as Treble v Bass goes.
2. Power tubes grid stoppers MUST HAVE been 1.5K, not 5.1K.
Just mention this for historical accuracy, in case anyone cares.

Not to mention that the pre OD network was possibly the standard 220K into 100K and the loop network may not have been there.

Thanks for pointing this out. I do remember a distant post on these values, but could not locate it. I'll make the changes.ayan wrote: 1. The level control MUST HAVE been 100KL before the mod. Do you mean before 1988? When the amp was photographed they appear to be GREEN-BROWN-RED (5.1k) with a RED 2% band.ayan wrote:

Re: #124, pre-Skyliner 1984 version with DEEP schemataic
Agreed. I tried to say that, originally, the amp must have had 1.5K grid stoppers, as did every single original amp from the 70s and early 80s that I have ever seen. Of course, it's all speculation on my part.ic-racer wrote:Do you mean before 1988? When the amp was photographed they appear to be GREEN-BROWN-RED (5.1k) with a RED 2% band.ayan wrote: 2. Ok, good (I don't have to change mine again....what a pain to change when they are below the screen resistor...)ayan wrote:Agreed. I will change them over on this schematic, as your speculation is probably worth a little more than the usual two cents...

Ok, on those changes.dogears wrote:Not to mention that the pre OD network was possibly the standard 220K into 100K and the loop network may not have been there.
One thing that I have never read mention of is the different color of goop or silicone glue around the coupling caps and the 100k and 150k resistors in this picture.
Any insight here? My theory (to follow) is a little crazy.

Isn't the darker blue indicative of the skyliner mod? The first goo is the paler blue...maybe. pic 65 shows some black goop too.

Re: #124, pre-Skyliner 1984 version with DEEP schemataic
Looking at the PI trimmer, I see what looks like evidence of it being fixed with BLACK goo in the past, then this was removed and it was re-trimmed (in 1988?) and then BLUE goo was used to fix it in place.
Also, in the previously posted picture you can see the two "new" capacitors from the tone stack don't have any BLACK goo on them, just BLUE. (The .01 and the .002)
So, my theory is that originally the amp only had minimal black goop on the preamp. Basically just under and around the components, but not covering the whole board. (Except for the are of the 100k/150k & coupling caps that was totally black covered)
Then in 1988, after the modifications, the preamp baord was given the 'standard at the time' complete goo covering with the BLUE.
So, back in 1984, the 100k/150k and two coupling caps may have been his 'most secret' components before the Skyliner came out. Because the rest of the preamp was Fender-derived stuff.
...all wild speculation...

I interpreted that darker blue as light falloff from the flash, but it could indeed be a third color!jaysg wrote:Isn't the darker blue indicative of the skyliner mod? The first goo is the paler blue...maybe. pic 65 shows some black goop too.
