Dual output trannys.
It's dual channel AND single ended. Twice.
All knobs are pull knobs. In "pulled" configuration they operate the lead channel.
But I have to use two cabinets...so...
Gotta get the jargon all lined up before I show my friends. "This switch here is the Phase-TransRectifier...it makes the sound a little more trebley...I know it's labelled "bright" don't worry about that...it's a transphasethinggy, you can tell by the lime-green switchtip. Very rare....
Skyboltone, this really has a lot of cool elements incorporated in it! Great work, both design and execution.
Is your yacht in the Sausalito marina? I did some sailboat restorations there when I lived in Bolinas years ago.
I have an amp built around the 2 X EL84 topology but my AC line voltages have elevated the plate voltages to 500VDC +.
Will these 7189 ers withstand such brutality?
I really want to bring this puppy back into the fold. It sounded otherworldly IMO driving a chromed Fane 12" with a boat anchor magnet not too long ago.
From whom did you obtain your 7189 types? If you don't mind my asking, of course.
Thanks, NG.
All excellent things are as difficult as they are rare__B Spinoza
I've heard differing opinions on compatability with 7189a's. Some say they're a drop-in replacement...others say they have a different pin-out.
Can you clear my confusion?
And yes, a reputable seller would be good knowledge to have.
Mat: The way I wired the sockets it's drop in. The differences in pin out can be discovered by exploring http://frank.pocnet.net/index.html and looking at the various manufacturers basing diagrams. The only reliable N/C pin is #8. I have used that as a tie point for the screen resistors. You can plug and play any 6BQ5/EL-84(M)/7189(a)/6P14P-EV etc. I wouldn't strand you like that.

If you put the Federal Government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in five years time there would be a shortage of sand.

Hey Noel. Thanks for the comments. These are the guys with the tubes. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=020 I really thought it was a gamble buying from Russia but this is a straight up outfit. He told me minimum 20 days delivery time but the package made it in 11. I have no idea how these would do over 500V. That's a bunch. Is your amp cathode biased? I believe I'd take a look at some sort of dropping scheme on the center tap of the PT. There are several Mosfet schemes running around and of course the old zener trick if you can find one in the right voltage range. Dartanion and I compared these tubes visually with the Sovtek EL-84M and they looked identical.
I was in Sausalito but we've moved to the infinitely worser Oyster Point Marina in SSF. They call it Pneumonia alley. Bolinas eh? A whole 'nuther world.

Can you hear the howling wind sculpture from your boat?
No but I can see it. Who's idea was THAT?!

I think it was put up during the first real huge growth of Genentech, after Roche got involved. I worked at Genentech twice on different consulting assignments (actually the first one brought here) and we used to be able to rehearse in Building 21. This is where they had Ho Hos, weekly/monthly parties put in by various groups within the company. Stage, lights, huge PA, wireless mics, everything. We were right down the hill from that sculpture and it howls something fierce on an average SSF day.
The EL84M from Sovtek has been a really good performer for me. I can get them really reasonable too and they appear to be the same tube as what Dan is using. Really dig that darker tone with a 2 holer.
I hear you on the toriod PT. It'd be nice if it had filament windings. The extra expense of the filament transformer should be unnecessary unless your using oddball tubes with weird filament voltages.
