Best EL34 mod platform...?

Am intrigued by the D style Fender front end/ Marshall back end w/ el 34's idea....aside from building one from scratch, is there a preferred amp to mod for this type of thing..Marshall, Music Man?

Scratch build in an aluminum chassis would be preferred, I'd say that a Traynor would be a good candidate for a mod, so are silver face fenders.
