Sounds great, the intro reminded me a lot of contemporary Clapton!paisley_tele wrote:can a d lite 22 capture that tone here gets. i know he boosts his signal with pedal and i dont have his tone but aint it mostly a dumble-ish dlite tone ? check this out here intro and lead parts . mostly the intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KWCKaSJbrQ

Do we think that's the OD channel with no PAB, non-HRM?

Those songs are fairly recent, so it's a Two Rock or a Dumble.paisley_tele wrote:huh?

Re: john mayer two rock tone
oh ok ! from what i gather , he is using the regular channel and a ts808 for the leads. but my question would be is it in the dumble tone of can a fender 6l6 get there better. is it better to build the 22 lite or a 6l6 fender

if you build a clean channel only dlite with 6l6's it will be like a really nice refined fender. I would suggest using a decent size OT meant for 6l6's - say a multi-tap bf bassman OT or similar, and a PT that will put 450V or so on the plates.

Jay,
I've been told he only uses the clean channel of the dumbles. His signature two rock only has one channel, so its probably clean channel and an OD pedal.

Re: john mayer two rock tone
what would the differance be if i used the 6v6's .

Re: john mayer two rock tone
I said that they'd work OK, but not much low end and not optimal for 6L6.paisley_tele wrote:someone siad that the first d lite was built using those transformers.
Use bigger iron...the 6V6 OT we use is heftier than the 5e3 OT and I think it's needed.
If you run 6L6 with the bluesmaster PI on an otherwise stock d'lite build you can get a great 'texas strat' tone, 100K/1.5K/10-25uf plates on V1 makes the cleans really juicy, you may need to lean out the OD a little though.
Re: john mayer two rock tone
My Dlite with 6l6s when cranked to gig volume is very similar to the intro tone on the clean channel. It cleans up like the second part of the song with a twist of the volume knob. I am using hot rod deluxe OT.
