Finished my express build!....for now. Plus Pics

Post by leaveitalone84 »

Hey all,

So I finally finished up my build this weekend. The only thing left to do is use Allyns fast/grad foot switch kit.

I added a cut control, which is exactly what I needed to tame the brightness and the fast/gradual switch. External Bias Adjustment and I also had to change all the pots to Mil spec 2 watters to fit the wooden faceplate.

In the fast mode it's exactly like the express was stock, but in gradual it sounds like a hot-rodded JTM45! Both very usable.

For a nice suprise I found 2 6v6's in my dads junk pile! Both 50's, one a Tung-Sol and one a GM Delco. They match perfectly and sound sweet! Different than the GT EL-34M's, plus a little less volume. Great to swap out for different sounds.

The bias was originally set around 33mV but I brought it up to 38-40mV. There seems to be more clean headroom now and the breakup into distortion is more gradual.

She sound so freakin awsome! Now for the amp pron. Sorry for the low quality, I don't have a very good digital camera.

Thanks!

I have to put the props out to Jeff Swanson for picking that mahogany. I was awe struck when I first saw it.

Yes, those are a blue dog and silver bell. Both alnico with light dope. They sound great. A little loud though
