Pictures of my build
Hi Guys,
These are long overdue. I don't have a digital camera right now, but a friend loaned me his a couple weeks go, so I wanted to share a few pictures of the "Sweet Loraine". This is essentially based on the D'Lite 22, but with some of the typical mods (thanks to the guys on the forum). The front panel is courtesy of Psyconoodler -- the front panel opening being cut too small is courtesy of me. D'oh!
I don't have a way to record it, but when I get to play it live and have some recording equipment going I'll post what I can. I'd like to get your opinions on the tone when I'm able to post a clip. I'm not sure it's "there" yet. I'm still learning how to use this amp -- it's a process I guess. I'm such "Fender guy" that this is way different from anything I've ever played through!
Anyhow, I've attached a couple pictures of the finished amp. Sorry, no pictures of the completed chassis yet! Also, here is a link to some more pictures if anyone's interested... http://s110.photobucket.com/albums/n115 ... n/D-Build/

Re: Pictures of my build
Mark,
That is a sweet looking build. Did you do all the cabinet work?
I am in total agreement with you... an ODS takes a while to learn how to use the amp... I've been a couple months now and I can't determine if the amp keeps getting better or if I'm just getting it figured out. I do like mine more all the time. I've found it does several things well although I still have not conquered the strat tone I hope for yet... but with the Les Paul, it is really great.
Congrats, play with it a bit and give us a report back.

Re: Pictures of my build
"opening cut to small" ?? Looks custom all the way! Great job. BTW it does take a bit to dial in your tone on different guitars. I'm pretty happy with my D'Lite 33. Still needs permanent home. Its in a borrowed head cab for now so.
Re: Pictures of my build
Great looking cab!!
Re: Pictures of my build
Thanks for the compliments (everyone). I did build the cabinet myself. It was custom in that I designed it myself.RJ Guitars wrote:Mark,

I also appreciate the advice to give the amp some time. It sounds quite different using a Les Paul vs a Strat. Not just the difference in pickup gain, but the tone. I'm also discovering that it's different when you have the preamp volume up and master down, vs preamp down and master up. I stumble across lots of different settings -- now to just remember them all!

looks like a Delta Pro 12A

Stelligan's right. It's a Delta Pro 12A.odourboy wrote:Slick!![]()

Has anyone else used one of these? I'm finding it's kind of "compressed" sounding. Funny -- I hooked up the extra speaker out to the vintage reissue Jenson (was it a Q? I'll have to look) and it was interesting to hear the two together. The Jensen definitely brought the amp tone "out front" like a Fender for the clean tones, but sounded lousy on OD. But the Delta, though it sounds kind of compressed and dead (compared to the Jensen) on the clean setting, in OD it really sounded nice and smooth.
Thoughs?? I'm kind of wishing I had gone with the Celestion. No money left, though

My impressions of the Delta I own were the opposite. I liked the cleans and mild OD, but it left me flat in OD. Not enough highs. I do like the speaker for loud cleans. Must be some variance or break in time with these speakers. I'll admit to not having too many hours on it.markmalin wrote:But the Delta, though it sounds kind of compressed and dead (compared to the Jensen) on the clean setting, in OD it really sounded nice and smooth.

Re: Pictures of my build
Interesting.... do you find it to be compressed sounding on the clean setting? I mean to where it squashes the pick attack like you're playing through a compressor? That could just be my imagination. My last build was a Fender 5E3 Deluxe and it is so lively and touch sensitive, but the D'Lite seems more compressed, maybe until I really open up the volume (which is hard to do in the basementstelligan wrote: My impressions of the Delta I own were the opposite. I'd be really interested to know if your Delta Pro changes characteristics after a month or two of playing.

Re: Pictures of my build
Mark,
My last go with this speaker and my D'Lite was here: https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?p=44433
with a TL enclosure. To be honest I havent played it since. My favorite spot for it so far was in a 2 x 12 cab paired with a Lead 80 type speaker. I need to put it on a loop to break it in awhile.

Very good thread. Thanks! I wish I had read this before buying the Delta Pro, but maybe over time it will loosen up a bit.stelligan wrote:Mark,

Re: Pictures of my build
Hey stelligan, when you did those clips did you keep the bright switch on while you had the OD and PAB on (second and 3rd settings), or did you turn bright off?
I think I like the tone of the Celestion best, I have to admit. The Delta Pro sounds a lot like my amp -- just a little on the sterile side. Nuts...

Mark,
I still like that Delta Pro speaker a lot for cleans, and the price is way right. It is just a bit sterile like you say, but Normster has been using one for awhile now and may have more hours on it. There is a Tele + HRM clip here that sounds darned nice:

Kinda Carltonesque & cool. Maybe he will chime in on any changes that speaker has made over time.
