Non-HRM clip.... Comments please....

Post by glasman »

Here is a clip from my mule amp. No seeyalator, but does have an experimental reverb installed. A little extra reverb and slight delay added at mix down time.

100 watt non-hrm combo, very strange OD1 and OD2 values.

Guitar is a cheap Fender squire Esprit with Gibson 57 and 57+ pickups. Speaker is a G12H65.

Let me know what you like and not like (playing is typicall me, some good notes, some bad notes :)).

Gary,

Nice tone! I love the way it is cleanish and also wants to take off and sing at the same time. Nice highs too!

The high point of my day... a few responses.

Thanks for the comments.

second high point of my day, after 20 years I am starting guitar lessons again tonight with one of the local jazz pro's. Hopefully he does not though me out on my arse.

Amp sounds great - must have really good eyelets on that board for all the tweaks it's been through

Actually, this is the THIRD main board that has been in the amp. The one that is currently in there is the uber cool wood grain formica.

Joey Trajillo huh, just shows you how often I get out to listen to the locals.

BTW, I sent that clip to my kids teacher (Stan Sorenson www.stansorenson.com ) to shame him into giving me a lesson time slot.

My son Travis can seriously kick my butt playing wise (especially phrasing) and it was starting to get to me :).

The really sad part is that at NAMM Travis was in the same room with Gil, Billy Yates, Michael Sims (LA session guy), Scott Lerner and David Henderson during a marathon jam session and I could not get hm to play. I think he could have held his own. My oldest boy Ryan played drums for the entourage most of the night.

We left at 2am and they were still going strong :).

Nice playing.

For me... the dynamics were excellent, with smoothness and chirpiness. The tone was appealing, but my ears wanted to hear the midrange hump either up or down a tad. This could just be an artifact of mic placement or amp settings...

Gary, I hear ya about our kids kickin' our aging arses. I just keep reminding my son that I peaked at 16 and have been going downhill ever since.

Great sounding clip. It's one of my favorite "dirty" tones...almost clean but with some warmth and sizzle.

Probably the amp settings. I had the mids turned back a bit. It was not quite as thick as I know it can get. It is going out again tonight and I will get to experiment a little more with settings. Think I will restring my PRS and give it a whirl.

Thanks for listening.

Norm you are right. Now if YOU had had this internet thing when you were 16 think of where you would be today :). He has been with the same teacher for about two years and has come a LONG way. I had my first lesson with Stan last night and it was a hell of a lot of fun. Ironically, he is starting me exactly how he started my son Travis.

Thanks for the comments on the clip.
