I have been telling Scott to get a tele for a couple of years now....
Nice clips...

Very good playing, Scott ...
I'd like to hear a bit more attack, personally.
Just re-stringed my tele thinline clone yesterday.
While I had the strings off, I decided to get rid of the neck PU's cover.
GOOD IDEA! Attack&chime improved, even w. turned down vol/tone. Feedback issues have decreased significantly.
I'd like to hear you playin' one of those simple board guitars, too
Playing sounds great as usual. So does the tone. Of course, all your clips sound awesome thru my speakers even the takes you are not to fond of, LOL.
Not to derail the thread but you had a clip of Robben Ford playing "Golden Slumbers," on your website about a year ago. Do you recall what style Dumble Robben was using for that song?

I 'll have to agree with Bob and some others that there seems to be a bit of sharpness lacking if you are trying to exactly cop the RF tone on that recording.
Of course I am listening through computer speakers that aren't too bad (5.1) so listening through them for a direct comparison of two clips is valid.
Yours is not a bad tone by any stretch.
The timbre is right on, just a little tweaking of the knobs (switches) would nail it exactly.
I too would like to hear a tele through it.
What I can't figure out is Robben's tele tone.
When I play my tele through my clone, it sounds pretty much like a tele.
If I play my Lonestar type strat with the humbucker in the bridge it sounds closer to the classic Dumble tone.
What pickup is RF using that gets away from the spanky tele tone?

I'm starting to rethink this, after listening again, I'm not convinced that's a Tele. Robben's Tele is more like you're describing, as is mine. There's really nothing that the Dumble does to mask the classic Tele spank. Who know's what Robben's playing?
( long time no comment - i've been lurking, tweaking and playing mostly.....)
I'll go out on a limb and say right up front that i prefer your tone....and dont think it needs the extra highs. Its superb as it is.
I think the "biting" top end is often over-rated and in a live situation in particular the top end can get very confused/indistinct. In fact I'd go as far as to say that in a live siuation a solid mid and upper mid is what its all about. Harsh mid is the enemy - this clip is most definitely not so.
Having heard Robben live with both types of guitar/pick up I have to say I find the Tele tone a tad aggressive. The Paul and Noupaul tone is very up front but doesnt take the high end off my hearing after the gig !
So, the tone I'm hearing on your clip is exactly what I like. Dont get me wrong fellas - Leo did get it right first time ( my son is called Leo for a reason ! ) but for me the Baker and the smoothed off top end due the "faux cable" capacitance Scott has modded in sound lovely - I wouldnt change it.
Its like good hi-fi - what really makes a tone is the mids - anyone can mess with excess top and bottom - tuning in the mids is the key ingredient.
And at the end of the day Scott's playing is so good the finer aspects of the frequency signature become slightly secondary !
Keep em coming Scott - I'd love to hear some more complete pieces.
With my teles I get pretty close to the sound Scott posted with my NONHRM amp. Interestingly, the settings that get me closest are the same settngs I use when I try to cop the Handful of Blues tone with the Baker.
Another suprising thing. After setting my amp for as near as I could get for the tone, I then adjusted the bridge pickup height of the tele. Altering the height had an impact on not only the distortion level, but also the midrange Haven't tried this yet with humbucker guitars, but now I will!
Me likey as well. For me, there is nothing to fault in the tone of that clip. As far as going for a Robben thing - whatever. "There can be only one..." And there should be only one. Isn't it all about gigging or recording with an amp that states what you want sonically, fits with your harmonic concept, and squares with what you are performing, too? Something that is "you-tone"? I'd say it's there. It sounds like you - and it sounds like you were diggin' it on that clip. It may obviously not be the tone for every piece you undertake, but it fits that backing track like a glove. You rocked that bitch! Sounds to me like you are excited about it as well. It's all good.
So, is the Bluesmaster period over - or do you have amps that do both now? I'm really diggin' my Skyliner HRM, too - now that I've finally wrapped my brains around the innards. Clip sounds great - now get that vibe and sound on a full blown track with a head......
