Mesa boogie thiele 1*12 cab

Post by tomo »

Does anyone have Mesa boogie thiele 1*12 cab?
How is the sound?
Is this good for dumble tone?
Which speaker is good? (EVM-12L, EVM-12S, Altec...)
Thank you.

I've done a couple based on the TL806 design which Mesa pretty much copied for their Thiele cab. One is equipped with an EVM-12L and the other with a Heritage G12-65. Both sound really good for D tone IMHO. I think Skip did a couple and so did Mark (although he modified the parameters a bit to accomodate some different drivers).

The only challenge is trying to mic them - if you're doing close micing, I found I had to mic both the port and the cone to get the full spectrum.

String Driver Cabinets in Japan makes the Dumble style ported cabs, to me the Boogie version sounds smaller

Do you mean the style with to oval port in back or closed back with a front port?

I just bought a boogafunk thiele cabinet. I haven't compared it directly with the Boogie, but this thing sound huge. I never felt that way about the Boogie I tried, it was just ok.

Man... those String Driver cabinets look nice, but they are pricey... :D 50,000 Yen for a head cab... that equals about $497.00US...

Kind of terrible name for a product line, imo. I can't launch it, but it worked yesterday. They make direct TL806 cabs and probably make the TL606 bass version. $230 unloaded

Yea, I was pretty turned off by the product name, but I like the cabinet a lot.

I don't know what the TL606 is, but I'm looking forward to them building a 15" version to complement my bass amp. I have several old EVM15B's but the closed back cab I'm using isn't quite there. I e-mailed them and it's in the works.

EDIT: I googled it and found the plans here http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Builders%20Plans/ . It was actually desinged for the 15L but some info I found from other forums says that the 15B sounds better because the L is a tad anemic in the low bass.

It's my understanding (via Bob Predaina), that the mesa-boogie thiele 12" and 15" cabs are simply redesigns of those two EV cabinets, with the port on the long side instead of the short side.

I have a boogie thiele. It has the black shadow EV in it. I can only compare it to what I have but I have to agree with what others have said in previous posts. It is not that loud and I would have to say kind of mellow. For me it is better for jazz or a smoother rock sound if volume is not a huge concern. My hardwood one 12 boogie combo is much louder and it also has an EV12L in it. But the cab is good for taming a brite amp and i like it with a silverface bassman for both guitar and bass
