8) That's really interesting, Allyn.

I checked in on the TGP thread a few times today, and it's amazing how divisive the subject can be. I lurk and don't post at TGP, but like to hang around for the show. Call it my quota of drama for the day!

Everybody had a position, and many wanted to defend their positions standoffishly. To be rejoicingly standoffish is one thing, but to be responsively standoffish in regards to a starting position--whether it's incorrect or not--is just the start of a nasty and often dramatic chain reaction. In the final analysis, the entire TGP thread there was wiped clean by a moderator, who left but one message: "stop the name calling."

I am so pleased to hear that you actually spoke with Stephen. That's one thing I try to do with the internet: get phone numbers, and then talk with people in person instead of accidentally propagating or unknowingly promoting complete misinformation. Even better is when I can use radio to keep in contact; it's a lot cheaper.

There is nothing quite like bullshit, and it is sure good to see someone take positive steps in the right direction to lighten the (already) heavy load.

Still on the home page:

"There are only about a hundred real TRAINWRECK'S out there, and about 5000 lame sounding clones by over 30 cloners."

For lack of $30k a clone is as close to the real thing as most of us will get. IMHO there are some great sounding clones available, they look real, they sould real.

Referencing the TW site:

The quick way to buy a real Wreck is to take out a second mortgage, hike over to Ultrasound a write a check. That's the largest single stash of genuine Trainwrecks available to the public. Paying $25k for one on eBay is a really bad idea IMHO, there's no guarantee you won't get a cleverly crafted fake. For my money I'd just as soon buy a clone but waidaminnit, I can build my own exactly like I want it.

If I have a beef with copycats it's with the vendors who offer 'Wrecks in kit form along with half-assed copies of every other amp they can bootleg. That lowers the standard for quality. Like I said there are a handful of builders who create fantastic replicas, for lack of $25k-$30k+ that's as good as it gets for many of us.

my Liverpool and Express may not sound like a real Liverpool and a real Express but...you know what? i don't really care...

All i know is...i had fun reading posts about Trainwreck and i had fun building them and voicing them...huh...er...clones.

If i might had...i especially have lots of fun while playing along with my favorite artists...with says clones...if i may be so bold as to say myself...and if what's is name does'nt like the sound of my clones...well...that's is problem, not mine...cuz they are tweaked to my liking... remember?

They look good and they complement the sound of all my other (god forbid) clones (5E3, 18TMB, 5EF6-A)...

One of these days i may even get a Lotus Super Seven and an AC Cobra in kit form and build that...Not the real thing i know, but...i, i, i, i don't care...

Come to think of it there are a busload of amp builders from New Jersey. That's fitting, think of the electronics industry that used to be in New Jersey. Before there was a silicon valley New Jersey would have passed for the Tungsten Valley starting in Hoboken and workin' its way down to somewhere in the middle of the state. Count 'em, Emerson used to be there, Bendix was there, Ampeg was there, Astron was over in Newark, Danelectro used to be there, I think Westinghouse had a big plant over in Kearny. That's just off the top of my head.

Of course Andy is in New Jersey and he's crankin' out amps the wannabes wish they were buildin'!
HeeBGB wrote:Unlike Alan Phillips of Carol Ann who has to justify himself. Very convenient that you justify your own cloning Alan.
Yeah, these foreigners who come over and rip off our designs! Stick to Marshall and Vox, bud!

Alan says he's been at it for 20 years. I've been at it for 30 years. Nyah, nyah!

"Master electronics engineer" reminds me of a certain modifier of Valve Juniors.

I looked at his site, blue type on a lavender background. Glad I don't have a hangover today!

Ooh, yuck... I just caught the MySpace angle. More flashbacks to that VJ guy. Wrong coast, though.
How do I even respond to this......

I read this right after a 60 mins on the phone with EJ going over details of an ORIGINAL amp he has contracted me to build. How ironic.

Rather personal isn't it all? Call me out for whatever, but if you wanrt to take pot shots, don't take the piss out of what I truly earned. It took me 12 years of hard work to finally have my Masters. I did it while still holding a full time day job. I didn't discover electronics by reading the internet, I served a 4 year instrumentation apprenticeship starting at age 16, working for Glaxo Smithkline, I moved on to work as a Process Control Engineer for BNFL, inspecting nuclear reactor control systems. I came back across to the pharm industry and got draughted to Wyeth Bio in the US as a 21CFR11 Consultant. I left the industry and Corporate life a couple of years ago to take up full time what I had been doing part time my entire working life.
To date my business is doing really well and in a very short amount of time I've got amplifiers with a bunch of very well known 'A' class players and deal through some of the best Dealers.
What the hell did I do so wrong to you ?

You think everything I build is based on a Dumble or a Trainwreck ?
My world is way broader than that. It may be your obsession, but it's not mine.

I've contributed positevly to this site and others over the past few years, but I'm all done now. The negative people can drown in your own pool of bitterness.

As for the foreigner comment, it was ignorant and racist. Say that to impress your little buddies did you ?

I will be at the amp show, if anyone truly has an issue with me, have the balls to discuss it with me directly or phone me 978 857 9026 instead of bullshitting on some forum.

Kind of like the BS you were slinging on TGP regarding only building 4 clones for "Real TW owners". Give us a break. I don't care how you justify it, you are making money off of Ken's designs and putting the rest of us down for being cloners. That's being two faced and I will be happy to tell you that to your face at the amp show. I think there are a lot more TW clones being built under the table than some of the "Boutique Builders" are owning up too.

Yea! You're the greatest Alan. None of this changes the fact that you are a hypocrite and you need to take your meds every day! I don't need to call you Alan. I'll see you at the NY amp show! I'll bring my hip waders to get through all your bullshit! You're a cloner! Plain and Simple!

You guys are a piece of work. First of all racist comments, now implying I need meds.
I'd much prefer to debate you on electronic engineering and all things amp related than personal BS.

Responding further to this is a complete waste of my time. I do not need to justify anything to you or anyone else.

I've genuinely got amps to build.......

Get your facts straight Alan. I made no mention of you being a foreigner or any racist comments. I simply exposed you for the hypocrite you are and you have no rebuttle to that. You post derogatory comments about cloners while you yourself are cloning for profit. Then you justify yourself and continue bashing other cloners. It's despicable!

As for your rantings above pertaining to your "qualifications"...well lets just say that you and that Moore Amplification guy make a great pair!

I'll introduce myself at the amp show and you can voice your grievance there! k?

Apologise for that, I missed a word out.
I wrote it singular, it should have been plural. Now edited to read correctly.

Someone was racist, someone made the meds comment. Period.

Please feel free to introduce yourself. I may not have had my meds, so if I'm throwing amps around or smashing guitars, it may not be a good time.

No you were right about the meds comment. I did say that and I apologise for it. It was out of line.

But that doesn't change the topic at hand.
This is a community of people a lot of whom are dedicated to "cloning" Trainwrecks and Dumbles. Your comments are not appreciated and only serve to hurt your own business. We may or may not be on friendly terms at this point but take a piece of advice from me (I know you've heard this before) When you're in business (and it relies on internet traffic somewhat) you can't go pissing people off or it WILL hurt your business.

HeeBGB...
Thats good advice. Like so many who populate TGP that rely on internet traffic for revenue often times find themselves in the mire that they create.
Andy Fuchs is a prime example of someone who gets it and makes the most of it. If I relied on this for my income, I would surely keep my piehole shut and let the product do the talking...NEVER post on the boards in public.
This is why we have private messaging. But, then again the entertainment value of these exchanges is priceless. Of course at your expense Alan.
Think about it.
