I put my Monkeymatic 100w ODS in a local musician/friend's hands so he can promote my amp when he plays local gigs. Last weekend, he supplied the amp as backline for a blues concert at the Paradise Performing Arts Center, and now I have some nice video of Chris playing my amp!

Those are some good sounds! I keep trying to reach through the screen and tune that one string though...

Great amp!
Pitch it!

Pitch it!
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Chris is a totally unique player, a good friend of Robbin Ford but his playing doesn't show it in the slightest.
His typical amp is a Musicman RD112 (65watt) amp with an EV12L onboard. I caught him one time years ago in Salem Oregon at My Left Foot, with his typical bass and keyboard friends from the Bay area. He uses a D'addario 10-46 set and those Major 3rd bends are telling you how strong his hands are. Four songs into the first set he broke the High E at the saddle, the nickel plating fine edge (that remained as the brass saddle was worn away) just cut it in half. However, he just kept playing. And you couldn't tell that anything had changed. He finished that song tuned up a bit by ear and played 4 more songs (LONG) and took a break. I went up to talk to him then becasuse he wasn't changing the missing string. He told me he didn't have any replacement strings. I happened to have a 9-42 D'Addario set out in the car so I went outside and pulled the 9 out of its plastic wrapper. I went back in the club and gave him the .009 string. He said thanks and put it on, but added that "it won't last long". My mistake here (I should have given him the .011!) because he broke the 9 on the first song. And it was a two set gig for him so the string changing was over. It was a great show no matter, and, I promise you, he played no differently on 5 strings than he did on 6. An Amazing Artist, I love Chris.
Back to your amp, xtian, it sounds great!! In my book, whatever the circumstance, getting Chris to play out of your amp is a very Beautiful Event. Congrats!

Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?

Chris Cain is a fantastic player and a great guy! I measured his pickups in his 335 about 10 years ago for a pickup making friend. They were still in the guitar but you could get an idea of what era they were from. He sounds great with anything but that Musicman RD112 with the EV speaker in it really fits his playing. I have a show of his recorded on my minidisc from when he played in Vancouver, WA from probably 15 years ago where he was just killing it.rooster wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 12:02 am Chris is a totally unique player, a good friend of Robbin Ford but his playing doesn't show it in the slightest.

All six strings present and accounted for, in tune, but not playing through the Monkeymatic:
