TUbe choices... or swaping ?
One simple direct question. Would it be possible to use 6v6 tubes with an OT that was meant for 6ca7 ?
That's it
THank you !

Re: TUbe choices... or swaping ?
Yes, but answers to simple direct questions tend to come with caveats... You should measure the transformer and figure out the turns ratio.

It is a simple question and not to be mean or a wise ass, but I think you need to at least learn how to do this yourself.
In the time it took you to post this up no less wait for a response you could have logged onto the Akin amps site and read and or printed off the info you need, or even on this site at the top of this technical section there may be the info you need.
One thing I can tell you for certain is that two 6V6 tubes need 1.8 amps of heater current while two 6CA7s need 3 amps.
The extra reserve heater current the amp will have with 6V6s in there Will raise the heater voltage substantially from what it should be.
This will add a bunch more gain to the amp and totally change its tone and response, plus if the heater voltage in the rises to more then 6.8 volts it will start to shorten the life of the tubes.

Re: TUbe choices... or swaping ?
6V6s want about twice the load impedance of 6CA7s/EL34s.
So you would have to double speaker impedance.

Re: TUbe choices... or swaping ?
OT not PT, the OP didn't say what it was going into so heater current might not matter. Hopefully, I have successfully confused everyone with abbreviations.Stevem wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 11:10 am One thing I can tell you for certain is that two 6V6 tubes need 1.8 amps of heater current while two 6CA7s need 3 amps.

Edit: I was too distracted by the simple direct question and ignored the subject. I guess "TUbe choices... or swaping ?" implies new tubes going into an existing amp, not selecting a donor OT for a new or existing amp.
Re: TUbe choices... or swaping ?
Some strange answers given here.
And yes, it would be best to determine turns ratio.
The question was about the OT only - not the complete amp.

Hello --
I suggest you've posed, with various phrasing, the question "how can I get the Princeton/Deluxe level of stage volume" more than once in recent times. Your best answer is "just get a Princeton".
Best ..

Your question is direct however far from simple. It would, as others have stated, depend on various other specifics of the amp's design. Output transformer is but one component. The Trainwreck Express is an example of an amp that accommodates both tube types well.
