PTP Dumblelator

Post by Normster »

Put this together this weekend. Works like a champ, quiet as a mouse. I REALLY like the bright switch on the return side. It adds clarity without adding any treble, if that makes sense.

I was impatient so I gutted my AirBrake clone and reused the chassis. I'll probably do another in a rack unit next. Oh, and the blue tape is just temporary while the goop cures.

BTW, thanks again, Funk! (For the tranny and inspiration.)

Looks very cool. Although I'm not a fan of these serial loops. I find that so many devices just don't work well in them. I'm gonna keep working on the parallel / feedback amp concept until it's perfect. I'm pretty close now, but I'd like more gain from the effect return.

I had a similar idea to put an external loop inside of the head cab of my Egnater seminar amp. The chassis is JTM45-sized, and pretty cramped right now. I was thinking about making some passive jacks after the preamp and before the power-amp, then building a Dumbleator and mounting it inside the head cab somewhere.

Before I can really do any DIY builds on amps or external loops, I need to settle on my house. That's only four weeks away, so I'm sure in between packing boxes of crap and junk, I'll be reading up on here...

Me too! I prefer it to the bright switch on the panel of the amp. FWIW the one I own that is a similar footprint sits nicely inside the bottom of my combo, but not my head. I am contemplating a long skinny build sorta like a tall reverb tank. I don't fiddle with it once its set anyway.

I think it'd be cool if you built it so that it would sit right up against the back back panel on the "floor" of the cabinet, with controls facing straight up, and with the loop jacks (meaning the ones that go to and from pedals) mounted on the back panel. Then you could use those 90-degree angled 1/4" plugs and the cables going around front of the amp would lay really neatly.

I've also always had the crazy idea that it'd be neat if something came out the side of the amp. I've seen stuff plugged into the top, front and back, but never the sides... YET.
