World Power selector switch?

Post by heisthl »

Anyone sourced a rotary switch for voltage selection? I'm thinking 5 position - 100,120,220,230,and 240.

AES (tubesandmore) has the Marshall 3 position volt selector for 110,220, 230, if that helps

I found the NKK HS16 series but it's over 2" wide and won't fit in the chassis I want to use. So the NKK HS13z will have to do - it's only 4 position ionstead of 5 (mouser 633-HS13-Z-RO)

I use these generally:

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... m=450-8968

But then I spec my transformers with dual 120V primaries and use them in series or parallel for 120/240V.

I prefer that to having the tapped primaries, although it means I can't specifically choose between 220, 230 and 240V in Europe.

Sounds like the old red Fender one. Seen it recently but as usual can't recall where  sorry. Did US sold Fenders come with a voltage selector or were they only on export models?

Do voltages still vary berween 220,230 and 240 in Europe?
I thought the standard was 230 for a few years but i could be wrong.

Here in the UK we have 240V (241@ 20:30GMT). So much for the EEC.

We 'are' 230V but the tolerance on the 230V spec is wide enough that we haven't actually changed from 240V. Other countries use 220V under the 230V spec, and some even use 230V!

EU norm allows 230 +/-10% so it covers 207 to 253.
UK is on exception so far on 240 +5/-10%

There's a new EU norm under proposal to adopt UK norm across EU. It will probably happen by 2012 or 2015.

F.Y.I. all electrical safety tests for CE certification are done with 253V mains voltage - rate your electrolytic filter caps so you have a 10% margin at any time.
