Need help designing a face/back plate (Twin > DClone)
Does anyone have a template image i could use to design a faceplate (and backplate) for a Twin? I think I am going to build a clone from my Twin and reuse the chassis and trannies. I mainly just need the image to show where the cutuots are for the controls. I will add labels, etc. The amp originally had a master volume so if it shows that, even better. The format can be .jpg, .gif, or any format that will work in Paint Shop Pro or Paint.Net. As long as it is to scale, I can probably use it.
thanks.

You can get a digital caliper from Harbor freight tools for about $30 and measure it exactly, Fender stuff tends to be on pretty simple layouts, like spaced 1.25" or 1.125"
Get yourself some nice big graph paper and you can use your caliper and a straight edge to make a nice mechanical drawing.
Another option would be someone like www.amplates.com they probably have the drawing for a twin chassis.

If he prints that at 100% all the holes are perfect.

It took me 1/2 hour to finish my post between other things I was doing, in the meantime you gave him what he was looking for
JOOC, What are the hole centers on a twin?

Henry,
I have seen where you posted about using a decal for your face plates. What is the process? I am getting ready to convert a fender quad head into an HRM. I don't really want to have a new face plate made (call me cheap).

Contact a local KINKOS (find out which location in your area actually does the outdoor sign printing) go there and actually talk to the emplyee that does it. He will tell you what format he needs the panel art in.

thank you. I shall check it out on the way home.

I use the local Kinko's and have the faceplate printed on cardboard, laminated. I glue it to a 1/16" piece of gargolite and use the pots to hold it on.heisthl wrote:Contact a local KINKOS (find out which location in your area actually does the outdoor sign printing) go there and actually talk to the emplyee that does it. Kinko's can print many formats but they have a limited number of fonts. Save your file in .jpg in as high a resolution as you can and they'll get your fonts right, otherwise it's a crap shoot.

Henry,
Your faceplates always look great, but don't remember the method you use to attach? Do you use adhesive in the areas where the pots can't hold it in place?

The Kinkos ones are peel and stick - other ones I use also are peel and stick. I would guess you could use double sided permanent tape.

Re: Need help designing a face/back plate (Twin > DClone)
I talked to them today. Just as you said. Excellent. I recently finished a tube mic preamp and did some slide off decals for the clear anodized faceplate. It wasn't really what I was looking for. Half of it worked, the other half had a whitish color where it should have been clear. This way it will be exactly what I want, and whatever color.
Thanks Henry.

Really? I never thought to ask about that. I use spray contact adhesive.heisthl wrote:The Kinkos ones are peel and stick - other ones I use also are peel and stick. I would guess you could use double sided permanent tape.
