Alleged NOS EF86/806s/6267's...?

Post by zozoe »

Greetings.... As my search for the most optimum EF86 continues (that hopeful balance between decent gain & minimal but liveable noise), I wonder why & how are there SO MANY NOS options offered on Fleabay, & for relatively GREAT  prices...!!!  How can one be sure of possible relabeling & less than honest selling practices??  & any decent CURRENT runs that all you can vouch for?
Thnx folks ॐ💃

If you really want to be happy open your wallet a tad wider and get a gold pin EF806 from Eurotubes, even there non gold pin version is less microphonic then any of the 7 NOS ones I have ever had!

I'm sure there is relabeling going on somewhere, but as bepone says, it is a popular tube. I am dubious of many claims of NOS. Pictures on ebay listings of a tube in a tube tester with a meter pinned all the way in the good direction make me laugh. You can make any tube read good on a tube tester if you set the tester incorrectly, and who knows if the tester even works... You can absolutely find good tubes on ebay, but there's a lot of luck involved. Not all tube sellers are competent and not all are honest, so be cautious.

It is not easy to rebrand NOS tube and to have vintage look, after 50 years printscreen must be all but perfect, with missing numbers, wiped off letters and so on.. internal material by comparation with original will show differences in construction.

I had good luck and good sounds with german brands, Valvo, Siemens, Philips is there..all for normal price..also used tubes are ok, tubes will last 5000h at least.. so if is on half, 2500h is still a lot of hours remaining..

If prinscreen or box are NEW, this is to be avoided.

Tube box must be vintage worn, 50 years old cardbox , in good shape, printscreen good but missing something from 50 years finger handling/checking IN-OUT.. logo and design, internal construction like all the others from this brand.. and this is (in high percentage) original tube.
