Greetings.... For the lightest of doping to apply to the surround of some guitar speakers, what's out there, & if I choose to go stiffer, I could always apply a 2nd coat...?
Many thanks

Re: Speaker Doping....
Get some while glue.
Dilute it a lot, but keep track of the ratio of water to glue.
Use a eye dropper at add the water to a puddle of the white glue.
Use a brush and apply it to a paper towel and let it dry .
When dry note the film and stiffness that you have.
If you have just a little stiffness then mix another batch and apply it to the surround and then let dry and test the speaker out.
When your done get some flat clear enamel spray paint and top coat the surround to seal it from moisture.

I use airplane dope. Over-thinned and spray above and down (speaker on back) just until covered. Speaker not warm and stays in cool area until dry, reapply, reapply.. third time it doesn't want to solve the previous material and drys to about the look of polished silk.
This is about what Weber used to call "super doped". It's stiff. Don't crank amp for first 20 minutes or so with super dope. Just loudish. I'm paranoid.
I bet Jim knows a better way.

Elmers white glue is a mixture of PVA and rubber latex, just what the Doctor ordered so to speak!
It, however like a poster, must be used very thinned out with water, and you can always apply more layers should you want to before you top coat it, again only if you care to.
If your surround is shot, then the voice coil spider is likely very much on the way out also which means it's just plain old re-cone time.
