Reverb Tank recommenations?

Post by NWForest »

Hello folks. I have an older Amplified Nation Dirty Mayor (now called Dirty Wonderland.) Recently I took it to an amp tech because the reverb was not working. He went through the whole amp and concluded it has to be a problem with the tank. What are some good replacement tanks for the JM style circuit? The tech told me to make sure the ohms matched up correctly. Is there a way I can check how many in/out ohms the reverb transformer needs? I appreciate any advice on the matter. Thanks!

Email your questions directly to Taylor at AN. He can and will give sound advice.

60% of chances that is not needed to buy new one. it is possible to repair reverb tank. open it up and see which wire is broken. resolder.

also in case of broken the micro transformer.. it is possible to rewind them at home easily. it is not needed to be even at the same number of turns. all working.

Agree with the others you may not need to replace. But if so, this would do the trick:

Thanks for your replies everyone. I've tried emailing Taylor and the amp tech tried as well, but no luck yet. Understandable, Taylor's very busy no doubt. I ordered a new tank matching the part number of the old one. The transformer was a consideration as well. If the tank doesn't work I may address that next.

If i had to buy a new tank for one of my amps, i would buy a short decay tank. (9ab1... or 4ab1)

In my experience new tanks somehow have much longer decay than the old ones. I have an old accutronics from the 80's with medium decay that sounds great and the reverb stops relative quick (1,5 - 2 seconds to silent) so it doesn't get in the way of your playing. The same medium decay tanks (same codes) i got from accutronics (early 2000), MOD and TAD never stop ringing, they have a very long decay and really get in the way, even at low reverb settings.

Just my experience though
