NTE resistors
Has anyone bought resistors from NTE lately?
I bought many "metal film resistor" but I have been sold metal oxide resistors. attach pics of 68kohm for example.
on the left metal film purchased a few years ago, on the right the order just received.
honestly to me they don't look like the same resistor.
very strange, the packaging shows the same code.but resistors are different.
I wanted to know if anyone had this surprise like me, and if it solved it somehow.
thanks for your help
Sergio

Re: NTE resistors
Packaging changes all the time with everything. I'd say they are the same.

The ones on the right sure look like MO to me.
If you take the time to grind a opening thru the ceramic color band outer layer of one of each you will know right away!
The make up of a metal film type is such that the resistance material is like a gray spiraling wrap from end to end on a core material.

i watched one of these glow BRIGHT orange and smoke in a malfunctioning kustom amp. it's what sold me on metal oxide resistors in higher current applications

Re: NTE resistors
Higher current applications may benefit by using higher wattage metal films also.

Inside they look the same resistor. Only the outer cover changes.

Yes, it may just be that the surface coating is unglazed and so matte in appearance, rather than glazed and so shiny.

oh definitely. my point was mainly based on failure mode. a metal 'coil' glowing hot orange can wreck a lot of stuff

Re: NTE resistors
I think they label those newer ones as flameproof, correct? I think it refers to the coating

Re: NTE resistors
They list their 1/2W resistors as metal film. 1,2, & 3W types as Metal Oxide
