For My McIntosh MC30 Tube Amp....

Post by zozoe »

GREAT, & all cautionary actions will be heeded...
Could someone kindly break down the side panel of my MC30, and perhaps where the 1/4" input goes, and specifically which parts I would be bypassing,,,,
1) Are those two 0.5V inputs, (one via an RCA input & the other being the 2 far right +/- posts on the strip) simply paralleled 'ins'?
2) Why does the Output strip have a 'Ground AND a 'Common' for the speakers?
3) Lastly, Am I to totally bypass & forget about that old-fangled multi-pinned round output on the bottom right?, and that input will be my connection from which ever preamp?
A million thanks for a million answers!! 🕉🎸🎸

These should answer your questions even though it’s a Mc 60.

XTIAN,,, using the schematic above, what's the best path to wire the output to the speakers, using the multi-pinned plug or to use the screws on the strip? And where can I find one of those plugs to feed the input, or can also use the terminal strip?
Thnx

Full schematic: https://www.thetubestore.com/lib/thetub ... ematic.pdf

I would just use the existing screw terminals for output, using an external 1/4" jack wired to a pair of spade connectors, just like I did here: https://reverb.com/item/55036080-stromb ... e-all-tube (see photo #7)

You can do the same for the input. Or, if this is meant to be a permanent mod, I'd knock out that RCA input jack and widen it for a 1/4" jack.
