Opinions on clip

Post by larsmuller »

Hey guys,

Superb forum!!!

I would like to have your opinions on a clip I made. It´s dlite based amp with some of the Dogears Mods. Speaker cab is Groove Tubes Electronics 1x12 (Eminece Tonespotter). Guitar is a superb Westone Rainbow I, a es335 like Japanes guitar.

Grtz,
Lars

Additional info:

Can´t get my hands on RN65 Dale´s...so I used other 1% metall film R´s. The yellow Caps are Jensen paper in oil (made in Denmark). Orange Drops are 715  Treble cap is 390pf SM. Tonestack is skyliner.

Wow! Nice sounding cello!!! I've never heard tone like that from a guitar. I don't know what to say. Post some more clips.

Sounds like you nailed it pretty close. :D

I've been trying to get a better tone out of my strats to no avail.

Sounds good to me, perhaps those nice Jensens counteract the fizz of the 715's? If it sounds good to you leave it alone!

Thnx all for those nice replies! I´m very greatful for this forum to excist and offcourse u guys to write so much stuff we can all learn lots from!

one more clip...
I just recorded this and its late at night here in Holland, so couldn´t turn it up and you can hear my guitar in the background...

this time I recorded it with a 1265 loaded cab.

so the 715 add fizz to the sound? its really hard to get these 6ps here. maybe 716s?

715's are a "Better" capacitor by technical standards, sometimes in guitar amps they can sound "Harsh" or "Fizzy". Paper in oil caps in these amps tend to sound clinical and dead, I think your combination works well, and the clips sound fine. If you are going to go with all 1 type use a mylar (polyester) dielectric, it doesn't HAVE to be 6PS, 225p series work fine among other types.

Once again, if it's not broke don't fix it.

Actually,...I´m still not all satisfied...I keep listening to "Rugged Road" and there´s something bout that sound I just can´t nail. Of course I don´t want to sound exactly like Ford but that album (Handful of Blues) for me is the holy grail sound... I think that the guitar (prob a Fender sig?) does a lot too...

Maybe I should throw all Jensens and 715s out....just for the experiment, I dunno...

I have tbe treble bleed circuit build in, 330 pf snubbers and a 390pf treble Cap, and somehow I can still hear a sharp edge on top of the sound (0.001uF 1meg trim to ground)... its like my poweramp or PI is adding that edge... is that even possible?

What is the effect of a lower value NFB resistor? I´ve got the dlite value ( 6k8 ) and Dogears recommend 4k7... what does that do?

Maybe some other power tubes?

Or is it something else I´m hearing?

Lars, I'm afraid Im not capable to tell You what each component You mentioned does to the circuit, but I can say this : You are not far from the goal :D

Lars,

Try the 4.7K resistor. It will smooth things. Less power amp gain.

Also, make sure the presence control is wired correctly. The 3rd lug of the presence pot must not go to ground. That will add to potential harshness. Only the presence cap and tail resistor get grounded.
