I'd be interested in incorporating your design into my Constellation build to switch the Volume II channel on and off. I had considered not having a foot switch after hearing about the possible problems associated with it. Do you think it's possible?

I thought the Connie already had a footswitch that turned off the VOLII channel. Are you wanting to replace the existing relay or are you doing something different? Either way I am sure our circuit could be used.
Re: New KF-50 Done tonight...this ones mine!!!
Dana,
I got my layout of the Connie from a very reliable source. The reason I am interested in a different approach for the foot switch is described in the following email from my source.
If I can make the amp switchable without sending the heater voltage out of the amp, I'd be very interested.

Source withheld to protect their identity from those who may be lurking!"Andy, the Connie doesn't use a Fast/Gradual switch. The relay is powered by the DC Heater wire that runs to the Neutrik jack and then to the relay. Crazy setup actually. I would put the jack there for cosmetics but I will not use the footswitch. I wouldn't use heater current running out of the amp to a footswitch. An accident waiting to happen. "

Re: New KF-50 Done tonight...this ones mine!!!
If I am not mistaken the Komet is using a tranny that has a 5v winding that is not used. This is what we used for our 5 volt supply. We do run 5v out to the footswitch but it is only needed to run the LEDs on the footswitch and it is a seperate winding from the heater winding. If you don't want the Leds then there is no 5v required. You could put a 500ma fuse in series with the 5v if you were worried about that shorting out. Or better yet maybe a 500ma circuit breaker that can be reset if you had a problem with a cable or something. We also looked at an option that would let you use a 9v battery to run the LEDs in the pedal and this also would not require 5v running to the footswitch from the amp. So there are a few ways you can go but the switch we have would work just fine.arwokc wrote:Dana,

The Connie relay voltage comes right off the heater and out of the amp...*bad* The switcher can be adapted for the Connie without this as Dana said

I have been getting a few emails and some posts in the for sale section regarding the Komet fast gradual fix. I thought I would continue the discussion here regarding the installation of the circuit in an amp, so you would have Allyn's pictures to use as a guide. Allyn and I got the finished boards in last thursday and we should have them ready to go soon. We still need to write up some instructions, source parts and figure out the price. If everything goes right we may be ready to go as early as next week.
A little about the board(s)
You can use this setup for channel switching by installing jumper wires in place of the 2 caps. The switch can then be used like a SPDT switch to ground the grids of a preamp stage to turn that channel off or on. Just like a relay only no noise. You can use it for any application where you could use a SPDT relay up to 400v. The footswitch jack uses a 1/4" Tip /Ring /Sleeve (Stereo) cable. It provides output of 5V (to power Leds or whatever inside your pedal), Gnd and an open or grounded control line.
We had the boards made as one piece with 2 score lines to break off various parts to make it easier to install. The switch snaps apart leaving a power supply and small power tranny board. The power supply can be mounted to the side of a 2" chassis. You only need to supply it with 110vac. If your amp has an extra 5v winding then you can snap off the power tranny board and just use the power supply board with a 5 - 24v winding.
Here are a few pics of the finished Mod.

how would this compare to mojo's Complete Mosfet Switching Soldered Assemblyhttp://www.mojomusicalsupply.com/item.asp?pid= ... id=5352110

I finally got a minute last night to go out and look at these. The opto switcher is nothing like ours. It has a led / photocell setup that varies the photocell resistance. The on state is 500ohms and the off state is >5meg. When turned on it would be like inserting a 500 ohm resistor in the circuit. Our board when the switch is in an on state will present less than 20 ohms resistance to the circuit
The other mosfet switch is more like what we are doing except we are using an opto isolated fet and Mojo's board is using a discrete FET and using cmos logic to turn it on and off. I have experimented with these and they can produce a little switching noise. You can configure it to have up to 3 SPDT switches. We can do the same thing just by adding more optoisolated SS relays but if your are just wanting to do channel switching in a 2 channel amp I will put our board up against anything on the market as far as switching noise and ease of installation. Our system also has the ability to power LEDs in the foot pedal and theirs don't. Our board will also come pre assembled and tested.

Yes I can ....as long as the Ohio River water doesn't have to get on the board. I hear it is highly corrosivedrhulsey wrote:Might you also bless them with holy water from the Ohio RiverUR12 wrote: ... Our board will also come pre assembled and tested.I bet MOJO can't do that

When can I get one?
Honest Honey! I had to buy the guitar to help out a friend in trouble.
Re: New KF-50 Done tonight...this ones mine!!!
Kborg, the kits are in and ready to ship. I believe you are using it on a Concorde. Assembled Switcher board and power board made to fit is $60.00. The omet60 sets are $80.00 due to the need for an extra Power tranny board required.
