Just as the title says,
Is it acceptable to run an amp on a light bulb current limiter or is this strictly limited to short tests?
Thanks.
Is is acceptable to run an amp on a current limiter?

If the bulb(s) used exceeds the wattage that the amp will need to draw to produce the volume level you will be running the amp up at then there’s no problem!

Just note that even a 70 watt peak output amp is going to need to draw like 150 watts from the wall outlet if your going to wind the amp out!

Probably no harm if the bulb is for 100W or more (depends on the amp,) but why would you want to do that? The fuse is there for normal protection. The dim bulb limiter is useful for protection if there is a fault. You've defeated the protection aspect with a high wattage bulb. I suggest you should use it as intended.

It’s a 150 watt bulb. It glows dimly most of the time I play so I’m assuming it is passing current but there is no short or else it would light up brightly. As long as the bulb passes less current that the HT fuse of the amp things should be safe right? If my calculations are correct the 150w bulb acts as a 1.25A current limiter.

You guys are right. The light bulb current limiter should just be a tool for fixing things. And because this amp won’t run for more than 5 minutes without blowing the mains fuse unless it’s on the current limiter I think it’s safe to say the amp needs some troubleshooting. I shouldn’t have to use a current limiter 100% of the time to enjoy my amp.
