Re: VU Meters
No! But you might specify voltage or current and range, or purpose. Like, power tube current?

Re: VU Meters
Nice link! Some impressive retro style meters there. When the lit says "contact us for a quote" better be sitting down when that quote arrives, iow X-pensive! VU meters never were cheap.Needs Coffee wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:53 am These guys?

Might try snooping surplus dealers, Apex Jr comes to mind. And Studio Electronics in beautiful downtown Burbank shows us a nice selection of VU meters, some new some used, WITH PRICES! right here:

Weber Speakers has some that are pretty affordable, depending on what you need: https://tedweber.com/amps/meters/
Re: VU Meters
Honestly, I'm not entirely sure, although I was inspired by your Black Butte projects to see if I could reasonably squeeze one on a front panel and tie it to the speaker output, so long as it's not noisy. Those amps sound great, by the way. I think those were SE EL84 amps, if I'm not mistaken. Just great sounding.
Just plug it in, man.
Re: VU Meters
Yes, that's reasonable. I was able to adjust the VU meter's sensitivity to match the amp's output by placing a resistor inline, between speaker output and VU meter. I clipped in a 100K pot temporarily, played the amp and set the pot for best VU performance, then read the pot's value and inserted a resistor with that value. No reason you couldn't leave the pot, though.ViperDoc wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 8:29 pmHonestly, I'm not entirely sure, although I was inspired by your Black Butte projects to see if I could reasonably squeeze one on a front panel and tie it to the speaker output, so long as it's not noisy. Re: VU Meters
Beware..... most VU meters are just mA-meters that requires a drive circuit to operate correctly....
