Voltages and rectifier tubes in my 20 watt rocket style amp

Post by Chris G »

Hi All,
I have finished my 2/el84 rocket style amp based on the the schematic here at our site.as per marks ideas I left out the 220k resistor from the treble pot to input of the phase inverter. Here are some voltages I came up with for 2 different rectifier tubes and 2 different sets of dropping resistors in the power supply. The power supply has 2-100uf/350v in series 1 47uf @450/1 33uf@450 2/ 22uf@500 caps in it

1)5AR4 W/18.2K AND 2X10K dropping resistors
ac v-285
dc v-302
b+ 1=302
b+2=300.8
b+3=226.1
b+4=194.3
b+5=190.1

2)5AR4W/1K AND 2X1.8K dropping resistors
ac v-267.9
dc v-296.4
b+1=296.4
b+2=295.4
b+3=288.3
b+4=280.1
b+5=280.0

1) 5v4 W/18.2K AND 2X10K DROPPING RESISTORS
AC V 270 v
dc v=274
b+1=274
b+2=273
b+3=205
b+4=177
b+5=172

2) 5V4 W/1K/AND2X1.8K DROPPING RESISTORS
AC V 282
dc v 259
b+1=261
b+2=261.4
b+3=257.3
b+4=250.6
b+5=250.3

I like the sound of this amp with the lower value dropping resistors.......still to soon to choose which rectifier though.........on a side note this amp sounds just like an ac-30 style amp I built a few years back.....only about 1/2 as loud........tons of chime and lots of growl when you turn up!!!!!!!!

Thanks!, pics are on the way ,mp3's............maybe.The trannies, power was an old stancor 250-0-250,@70 ma 5v@2a 6.3@ 3a.......output is out of a old german hi-fi head.....8/ 16 ohm out's no idea about the primary impedence, but the amp it came out of ran 2 84's.

Thanks!!
Chris
