recommend a handheld oscilloscope for orienting caps

Post by Audiodog »

Hi,

Is anyone using one of the low cost handheld scopes that are all over eBay? Like this one or similar. My scope died and I need to replace it with something more practical. Image

I have one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QML4LJL

The UI is difficult to navigate, but it's fine for the basic task of seeing guitar-amp waveforms and when they clip. Bonus that it's battery operated, so you can avoid blowing up your solid state amps by accidentally providing a current path to earth!

This one looks interesting with its touchscreen interface: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088WMV3DV

And that Hantek 2D72 looks nice...only $110 from banggood.com!

Got my Hantek today. Works perfectly! I have already oriented caps here and there was a noticeable larger amplitude wave when the positive was hooked to the outer foil shield, every time. Very pleased.... I can trust it now. Side benefit is that is a fully functional DMM too.
