Ok did all of that. Even built a new rectifier to rule that out too. Replaced the tranny with a toroidal one.
Hum reduced a little... but not much. Then I tried some caps across the sec winding , just before the rectifier. With a .68uf cap the hum was nearly gone. But it also meant that there was a loss of treble in the reverb...
Is there actually any harm in putting that cap there? It's 630V rated. And the voltage across those wires is 240VAC.

problem want an X class cap of higher voltage rating.

I ordered some stuff to try out other options:
- 3kV ceramic cap for replacement of that .68uf
- 2kV .02uf ceramic caps to connect parallel to the rectifier diodes
- 150uf electrolytic filter caps to replace the 100uf's
- a 6BX6 power tube to replace that 6AU6... I will have to replace the 7 pin socket too for that
- some new and different 12ax7 tubes
