Two more BM clips to compare
This clip is a close miced SM57 on G1265. Royer R121 4 feet back and mixed in at a -6b level. Verb and a touch of delay on a bounced second track at 100% wet.

This is a basic mix of another take. Trimmers had the mids a little higher and bass higher too. CLose miced SM57 only. Effects on main track only.

Any thoughts?

Re: Two more BM clips to compare
Snuck a low volume listen to the first few bars and my first impression is that I like the second clip a little more...but the second clip might be a tad higher in the mix, or is that the '57 presence thing that makes it seem higher in the mix? In any case, sounds great!

Thanks! I need to remix clip A to raise the solo.... CLip 2 had higher solo levels....

Number 2 is the winner. Number 1 is too polite.....

+1. The fullness granted by the "hair" makes clip 2 much more satisfying to my ears. Even through crappy headphones at work.glasman wrote:Number 2 is the winner. Number 1 is too polite.....

Wife: How many amps do you need?

Yep, #2.
Scott, in a quasi-related vein, is there one set-up that you personally felt nailed the "Handful of Blues" tone?
Thanks, Skip

I wish I could comment on the tone, but I'm ona business trip and I only have my laptop. I still love your playing though Scott.
Re: Two more BM clips to compare
#2 by far. More bite and attitude regardless of the mix.
Re: Two more BM clips to compare
First clip for me. For lack of a better description the guitar is more exposed. Midrange hump is a little higher... In that regard, more of a HRM than non-HRM tone, which to me could mean less attitude, but more personality
Yes, not has much of that classic dumble buzz, or hair, which puts more stress on you the player to play well. Thankfully, you do!!

#1 is clearer but I like #2 better - it seems like it would be more inspiring - seems like your playing reflects that as well.
