SYNERGY ROYAL MUSTARD CAP VALUE ID
I picked up some Synergy Royal Mustards for my next amp. Their value is nowhere printed on the cap itself, and I don't see industry-compatible codes that would identify it. Anyone know how to crack the code? My DMM doesn't have a capacitance mode, and I really don't want to go buy a new one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Just plug it in, man.

How can we guess without an example?
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com

The red ones are cherry. The green ones are watermelon. Yummy!
Re: SYNERGY ROYAL MUSTARD CAP VALUE ID
Buy an inexpensive capacitor meter...check all before installing in your amp .

I should, and I suppose I will. Thanks.
[EDIT: I just did. It will be good to proof the pudding.]

those... are industry standard markings

Indeed, they are. Now I know what that means. I don't think I'll understand the rationale of encoding part values instead of just printing the actual values, but hey, why make it too easy?

Re: SYNERGY ROYAL MUSTARD CAP VALUE ID
needing 3 numbers instead of more, no need to print unit and/or a decimal point (which wears off easier)
makes it language proof (many other countries use a decimal point and comma the opposite way as the us does when it comes to numbers)
why print color bands on resistors instead of their value?

Re: SYNERGY ROYAL MUSTARD CAP VALUE ID
which one seems shorter to you
104
or
0.01 uF
that's 3 numbers to print for the first, or 6 to 7 if you add the space between them for the second.
I'm guessing there are two reasons for this:
1. the less you print, the less it costs
2. parts keep getting smaller, so easily printing everything becomes trickier.

A 104 is a .1uF or 100nF A 103 is a .01 uF or 10 nF A 102 is a .001 uF or 1nF
A 224 is a .22uF or 220nF. A 223 is a .022uF or 22nF A 222 is a 2.2uF or 2.2nF
Etc Etc Etc

Oh forgot A 101 is 100pF. 251 is 250pF & 501 is 500pF see the trend.

Re: SYNERGY ROYAL MUSTARD CAP VALUE ID
Those are the easy ones. First digit, second digit, number of zeros to add. The tough ones are the ones that end with zero. IE, 100. Is it 100pF or is it 10pF? Or, 470. Is it 470pF or is it 47pF? DMM usually doesn't help.
Re: SYNERGY ROYAL MUSTARD CAP VALUE ID
You guys are awesome, thanks. Yes, a 222 is a 2.2 nF. Got it.
By that logic, a 470 pF cap would be a "471", and a 47 pF cap would be a "470", yes? That's just mean.
