183 Build pics

Post by ijedouglas »

I finished this build a few weeks ago but had some international travel that turned into chaos with the current virus situation. Finally made it back and thought I'd post a few of the build pics.

I was able to find a few of the older shiny NTE MFs and they certainly make a pretty big difference, more musical and clearer on the top-end.

Very neat and clean. Do you have a pic that shows the entire guts?

Thanks Phil. I don't have the chops or a decent recording setup to do it any justice.

Sluckey, that's all I have other than pics in various stages of the build process. I can pop it on the bench later and snap a few. Is there anything particular you want to see?

Thanks Guy. I built a 124 and a 102. This was actually a rebuild and I'm currently tearing down the 124 to rebuild it. You learn so much while building these and when you look back at your first builds they just don't cut it anymore.

Looks great! Very clean build! Which one do you like best? 102, 124, 183?

Thanks guys.

Colossal, so far i prefer the 183. I found some correct parts for the 124 and before I tore it down it was also sounding pretty good. Didn't like the 102 at all...but maybe I didn't build it correctly

Tony, there is a pretty big difference with the older NTEs. The newer ones have a duller sound and are not as musical. I wasn't able to find any for the PI so I used the MK3s...not sure how big a difference that will be. The Q-lines also made a big difference even though i couldn't get the exact values. I experimented with Draloric and Piher in the PS and although I'm not sure I can tell a difference (too many things changed at once) it definitely makes a difference in my head :) The older NTE caps (silver writing) also make a big difference...I AB'd the PI cap and it was night and day to the new production 0.1 NTE.
