Sounds amazing ! Clear and sparkly and snappy. Great tele too I was playing a 52 reissue at the store and was so temted to bring it home. Hands down my favorite tele and neck!

I think you need to make a dozen more of these amps! the doors will be crashing down for people to buy one like Walmart on Black friday!

Cheers

Thanks Guy!
Yeah the 52's are nice guitars! They do what they do and the Classic is a good match for a Tele for sure.
The only thing I had to do to mine is take off the vintage frets and go 6105's really makes that guitar pop out the notes!. Now go get that Tele

Sounds great Tony. Lately I have been liking the OD trimmer set pretty high on the low plate. Straight up.

great tone as always Tony. Really like this one as well :D

reading your description of what you're after with the clean and OD I think we're in the same ball park about what we like to hear. I've got round it by automatically using my volume and tone controls on the guitar now to reduce high end on OD/clean if needed, especially on the bridge pickup. I quite often use the amp permanently in OD mode as well and clean up with the volume.

congrats on a nice sounding build.

Great! Easier to work with than I thought.I don't think mine was as thick as Dumbles Tandy brand which was good. Center conductor was stranded and not solid core but went in without issue. I had to be quick with the Iron otherwise the center wire jacket would start to melt. I am not sure what the brand looked like a Beldon print but can't say for sure.

As far as I can tell it gives the amp a slightly softer top end vs the 188. As you can tell by the clip the amp is plenty bright even with the Lator on it. I can see why Dumble liked it so much. A very musical sounding wire is a good way to describe it. I would use it again on another amp and maybe choose it over the 188. It's hard to say for sure with just the 1 amp but so far so good. I'lI have enough to make some connector cables for my lator which I think I will do. Will let you know how that does.

Is that what you get from it as well?

Great clip Tony, and congrats on this stunning build! I loved the spanky sound and overall balance of the tone. It seems the not is not bassy at all, like I would have taken a bitmore, but still very musical, not harsh, bright and balanced. I love the way you bring in the OD, light as a feather, almost identical to the clean sound but with more air on it, very elegant!

Can't wait to start diggin on the musicman amp! I am on to 2 Tweedle Dee with a few twists (can't help but not stick to the plan).
But I swear I will do a straight musicman low plate classic!

Cheers,

Fred.

Thanks Fred! After I did the clip and listened back on my laptop the smaller speakers in those don't exactly portray the low-end accurately IMO.When I listed back on my Klipsh's the lows are there. I dont think I want to change anything as long as the lows are tight I a generally happy. The classics are definitely more scoped than the Music Mans. Dumble did build a few LPC M Man amps.I can see where the Music Man transformers would work well on these amps. So if you decide to go there you have my blessing!

Any specific reason you use carbon comp resistors esp. on the pi?
Not really it's mainly what I had available in those values. As far as the power supply goes I've used those higher voltage AB's in other amps there since they can take the high surge voltages.I also have a series of Zener diodes placed just after the screens (22k) so the supply should not exceed 450V and catch fire. I had a few left over from the Music Man amp so in they went.

The one in the PI is an IRC "precision" encased CC. They seem to have a nice round' sound to them used in certain spots. I got a batch 820's years ago and have used them in other amps so I thought I would give them a shot. This is the 1st Dumble style amp I have used them in so we will see how it does?
The other spot I used a CC in is the 220K in the loop jacks (ala #124). This was recommended to me by a friend as to a good spot, again we will see.
My feeling is that this amp will be darker smoother and round sounding with plenty of low end and hopefully tighter compared to my other Skyliners. This is what I am shooting for

BTW. I've noticed that Dumble also likes to use the 2w AB's as well for bleeders in some of his older power supply's .They do seem to provide the amp a bit more in the way of a natural compression. I don't know if this directly or indirectly affects the RC time constant vs another resistor type (pulse rate??) or what exactly it does just something I've noticed about amps I've used them in over the years

Tony
Tony, I did not anticipate how much putting these QLines as bleeders would actually color the sound of the amp. I now what these resistors sound like and I can definitely hear that flatter almost thud like sound. That is a bit of an eye opener.

Interesting!..I can usually tell a difference between using Metal films or oxides vs the carbons (Ikra,Phier,Draloric, AB's) in the P.S but have not done any extensive testing with various brands. It's good to hear your take on the Q-Lines there!..The thing Iike about them in the preamp is the change in character in how the amp breaks up that is very Dumble like (Snarl) along with the thud sound you describe. They re not as smooth or refined as an Iskra or a Phier (at times too smooth). They sound more like a Carbon comp than a carbon film :D Pretty Cool! Thanks for the update and are you leaving them in?
