First Build: 50W 2nd Gen Hybrid !

Post by rlaak »

Hi Guys,

This is CookeWowz ('Koekwaus'is dutch slang for a village idiot) and this is my first post about my first D-style build.

2 Months ago i started off with a chassis, pcb and faceplates i purchased from Erwin (Erwin_ve) via this forum. With his guidance, a TubeTown cab and the schematic from this forum, i marched into the unknown. And - much too my surprise - it turned out to be a flawless build w/o any serious hickup. Dead quiet.

The schematic contains 1 small error and i deviated on a few values (Rbias pot to ground, presence cap, caps on bass pot, switchable local feedback on V1 etc) but besides a wiring mistake in the footswitch it just worked like a charm. And, above all, it turned into a really great amp. I'm still finding my way sonically but, raised with F-tweeds, it really takes me in other, new directions.

Yeah, no real questions actually. Only thing that i want to investigate at some point is to get a bit more range on bas and mid pot. From all speakers in the stack i liked the Alnico Cream most. Others that fancy this over a G12 or ceramic in general ?

PS Erwin: thanks Mate !
PS2 The pics of the chassis is not the final version. Along the way i go some more NOS Beyschlag resistors in. And a decent 2.2u presence cap . O yeah, and these 70V Mundorf bypass boys i had lying around. Bit oversized...
PS3 Thanks to the masterminds behind this forum. Great stuff guys!

Tx Ron

Ron,
Great to see the final(almost) inside and outside.
You managed to give it a little twist to your taste which is remarkable as a first time D style build.
Enjoy!

That's a great looking amp! Is that a hybrid between a low plate skyline clean side and 2nd gen OD?

Erwin, Ron, we could start a Dutch Dumble builders club now

Story of my life guys,,,,,bigger parts :D

Like I mentioned in the initial post some of the parts have change since. The German Canon's and the 2W Beyschlags are still in though.
Next build I will take guts-esthetics a bit more serious.

Did I just say my next build ? Oh lord....

Nice build! Ive read a-lot of threads where the amp doesn't work upon first start up. Says a lot that you got it right the first time.

For ya’ big parts loverz...

This is how it eventually went in the cabinet. Sounds ridiculously good.
In due time i hope to post some decent sound clips.
