IT WORKS! Thanks to you all!!!

Post by ViperDoc »

I fixed the issues I was having with this JTM45 KT66 build. I had PFB when I first fired it up, so I swapped the wires. I also thought I smelled something after a few minutes of burn in. The only thing I could find was my adjustable bias pot was cranked up so when I checked the Bias Master, the current on the output tubes was almost 120 mA. SO, I adjusted it to 35 mA and after playing around, I left it at 36.5 mA. These tubes are incredibly well-matched, only 0.1 mA of variance wherever I set it. This thing cranks and sounds SO GOOD!!! Thank you all for your assistance, it’s been very helpful.

Nice!! Of course it sounds good. That's a sweet rig, congratulations! Let us know what you think of the tone and the low down on your Avatar hybrid Forte-ish cab. What speakers do you have it loaded with?

I'm going to do a 50-watt Plexi/2204 next, and I'm really excited about it! I'll probably cry wolf on that one at some point, and then you can save me again, man! Much appreciated!

Thanks! I turned it up a bit tonight and it sounds as you'd expect; very rock and roll, man! Turning the gain up on this gets you from that solid, tight rhythm rock tone all the way to that saggy squish and slam, it's great. Right now I have a pair of H- and M-magnet Scumbacks in there and they just sound awesome. The bottom half of the cab is closed-back while the top is open. Pretty cool.

I also have a horizontal, all open-side Avatar cab that's loaded with one Fane F70 (ceramic, Creamback-style speaker) and a Fane A60 (alnico). OMG, that cab is so hi-fi, it's ridiculous. I do, however, usually run an EQ pedal with it to tame the ice-pick highs when needed, but the incision of the notes with the alnico speaker is just dynamite. It's very dynamic and has great tone as well. Cheers!

I'm sure that cab sounds great. I have a pair of M and H75s as well; great sounding speakers. Well done and enjoy!

Glad you got it working! But, why not put the resolution in the original thread?

Perhaps that would be better forum etiquette. Next time! And I’ll post a link.
