Dumble inspired rebuild of Super Reverb

Post by beasleybodyshop »

Hey everyone! Been a little while. I recently acquired this Fender Super Reverb and decided I was going to rebuild it with a few nods to Dumble. Not really copying specific mods, more like using similar components and applying a few of the tweaks.

Normal channel is somewhat Bluesmaster voiced, Vibrato is stock AB763. I moved the channel mixer before the reverb entrance so both channels get reverb. Also used an LED for the oscillator cathode in the tremolo. Using the PI trimmer and Tweed phase inverter, with 3 levels of Negative Feedback via the previously disconnected ground switch. Goes from stock 820R to 3.3K/47K.

Also, I wanted to add a mid pot to the normal channel but I didnt want to punch any holes in the chassis or repurpose a hole on the front of the chassis so I decided to mount a 50K trimmer pot within line of sight of the low input jack hole for the normal channel. You can easily tweak the midrange value with a small tweaker screwdriver. And the low jack still works for signal input!

I also had the chassis stripped and re-nickel plated. All I have to say here is wow. Was not very expensive and really makes the amp look new again (it looked pretty rough inside before). I highly recommend it if you're going to go through the trouble of rebuilding one of these.

Almost done wiring it up! Can't wait to try it out 😁

Thanks guys. This has been a pretty fun rebuild. Was going for more or less "Ultraphonix-Lite" :D

The Tweed bassman/BM PI makes such a huge difference in the feel of the amp. It's a good mod for any BF/SF 6L6 fender to make the amp juicier!

Nice Dustin!

The mid accesible by the low input jack makes me grin  Both funny and inventive...
