Direction change.....

I am thinking of totally rebuilding my Standard Amp preamp into an HRM... It seems like a perfect mod. What seems so perfect about it is the HRM tone controls can be panel mounted (This amp already has them mounted).

Has anyone done panel mounted HRM tone controls?

What do you think?

(If I have my Dumble terminology wrong.. please advise)

Yes - I have. I know at a couple of others have tried it also.

My take. As a first build when I was working in a total vacuum (before Amp Garage was around), it was somewhat handy to have the HRM contrls exposed for easier tweaking.

But eventually they become set and forget and then it's just more clutter on the panel.

Here is the deal... I'm going to build the Dumble preamp into an existing amp. Specifically into my FYD1 Amp. Take a look at the preamp side. Notice the layout with the tubes and controls on one side of the amp.

I am going to remove the preamp board and rebuild, hopefully.

My point is this... You guys have completely confused me on which model to build. ODS, HRM, #124, Lite... etc.

So what do you think will work.

I don't think I was clear.
I want to rip out the old preamp (It used three 12AX7's) and install a Dumble preamp (using only two 12AX7's). I can't decide which preamp to use but I have two sets of tone (TMB) and Volume and an extra drive pot available.

I can use the TMB and Vol for the clean channel. I have available for the OD channel Gain - TMB - Volume.

The nice thing about this amp is it has a parallel effects loop and two channels of reverb I can add to the preamp or completely bypass.

As I said in my previous post is the layout of the tube sockets and pots are on one side of the chassis.

Any comments on converting this to a Dumble??
