Filter Cap Board - Bandmaster Reverb

Post by RightLurker »

I'm working on a '71 Bandmaster Reverb. Two leads from my multimeter are inserted in two eyelets on the filter cap board. The eyelet with the red probe is where the negative lead of one 70 mF cap goes; the eyelet with the black probe is where the positive lead of the second 70 mF lead goes. The two 70 mF caps are wired in series. There is no connection between these two eyelets under the board. There is no continuity between the eyelets. Shouldn't these two eyelets be connected? Thanks.

Which eyelet do the leads from the rectifier and the standby switch connect to? That one is the top of the stack, and the negative lead of the other cap should be the ground. The remaining positive and negative leads should be connected together. Accordingly, either the two eyelets you have your probes in, or the two on the opposite side of the board should be tied together.

Thank you, Martin. I followed your advice, got things sorted out, and put a jumper between the two eyelets at the top of the filter cap board. All is well. Strangely, there is no sign that a jumper was ever there.

This is how it should get wired.
And by the way upping those 2 70 uf caps to 220 uf gives the amp far more punch when volumes get above 4 on the knob!

Thanks, Stevem. I appreciate you going to the trouble of making the drawing/schematic - in color, no less. The problem was there was no connection between the negative of the top (red) cap and the positive of the bottom (black) cap.

The cap that was removed had a long lead that also served as a jumper. You’ll need to throw one in that location.
