Sunn S100 build

Post by M Fowler »

I bought a Weber S100 chassis and cabinet.

The PT is 100w PT100 Marshall style
OT is 150w unit from Jana a few years back.

Made my own boards and just about finished wiring this beast up.

Your not using a choke like in the original?
Nice work by the way!

Steven thanks,

Yes I am using a choke but haven't got around to bolting it in yet, which by the way, was an oversite on my part.
I realized last night as I looked over the photos, I said, where the hell is my choke and how am I going to bolt that sucker in now.

Thank you.

There are plastic face plates not etched chassis, I wish it were so!

Today I wired up some more.

Just have the power tube wiring, bias test jack wiring and the two bias pots need to be wired.

That looks like it will be a monster sounding amp when its done! Excited to see the final pics!
I remember reading Mick Ronson used one briefly as well as his Marshall Major.

Nice work. 6550 output? Thoughts of mountain and Leslie West.

Mountain indeed yes!
But the key thing with West killer sound back then was that he ( and Felix) got handed off Hendrix's Sun gear when he switched to Marshalls.

Anyway long story short West was playing thru a Sunn 200 watt RMS pa head which had more far more gain due to the Hi Z Mics of the era they where designed to work with.

Is your build using the same S100 PI section / tube?
