Any info on Randall Alpha amplifier?

Post by JazzGuitarGimp »

Hi All,

I have a Randall head in for repair. The owner says "it sounds bad". I haven't listened to it yet. I thought I'd try to find a schematic for it first. That's proving to be more complicated than I thought... :-) The front of the amp has a placard / badge that says ALPHA. On the back, there is a "serial number / model #/ wattage" sticker, but only the serial number is present while the spaces for wattage and model # have been left blank. Is it possible this is a prototype of one of their models?

It is a two channel amp.
Channel 1 has Hi and Low Inputs, Presence, Volume, Reverb, Treble, Middle, Bass and Master
Channel 2 has Hi and Low Inputs, Presence, Volume, Reverb, Treble, Middle, Bass, Speed and Depth

There is an upper chassis which I assume is just the preamp circuits and a lower chassis which appears to be the power amp and power supply.

Can anyone shed some light on what this is, and possibly point me toward a schematic?

Many thanks,
Lou

hey guys this is my first time here . :) great site !

did you ever find a schematic for this amp or any other early alpha stuff ?

i have (Randall RG100-4 Alpha iv) with 4 10'" speakers and two 6l6's and one ecc81 for reverb i think this is a hybrid amp with a solid state pre

the speakers are Heppner

amp is switchable 4-8 ohms

reverb doesnt work

no spring reverb that i can tell exists on it

tremolo effect works great its a very clean and clear amp with a large amount of head room good for keyboards or clean guitar playing
