13 years for me. I've come to the conclusion that in order to get over the suckiness of sobriety, one must transplant it with the suckiness of everything else. I'm still working on this, but playing guitar is much more satisfying this way methinks. YMMV

12 years for me and I don't miss getting drunk and stupid.
I drink Busch NA beer which has a great taste on those hot summer days.
Before I would start drinking at 4:30pm after work pick up the other band mates drive around to waste time and drink. Then off to the gig
to setup at 7pm and play at 8pm to 1am. Get home at 4am and do nothing all the next day.
Social drinking meant hitting happy hour with friends, family, neighbors, community and drink a case of beer each. North Dakota people drink way too much.

Methamphetamine is a scourge. There is a population here in SLC that I call the walking dead. I'm not into that show either. You can pick the ones out that are fully invested...sunken cheek bones, Meth Mouth, sores all over their arms, can't focus, feel or love...they are already dead and just don't know it.

Hey I was from SLC before being up in the PNW. Don't miss the meth den that area was. I know eastern washington is one as well. I've been to Yakima, was nervous the whole time, meth heads all over the place.Colossal wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 7:03 pm Methamphetamine is a scourge. As for being sober, nothing worth it is easy. I drink, and feel I'm in control, but if I got out of control, I'd quit for sure... (or so I think/hope). Most of the most amazing things I've encountered in life weren't while drunk...

I hope to move up to the PNW before too long. I have friends up there and the Woods call my name. If you know downtown here, I used to live off 4th South (it's all built up now) and there is a population of professional tweakers and junkies that come in the warm months and seem to disappear in the winter time. With it comes petty theft, and litter and squalor. You need to be mindful of your surroundings but I have never been accosted, fortunately.
Re: being sober blows
cbass, I don't want to take this to a place darker than it is, but I see a gun in the picture next to the bag with the can in it. If you're contemplating anything worse than getting drunk, I would certainly seek out someone to help you through things. Please don't take my comments wrong. I've been in a pretty dark place before ... called for help ... extremely embarrassing at the time, and even in retrospect; however, it was the kick in the seat I needed at the time to take back control of my life. Be well. God bless.

My wife and I have been fighting 3 years to save our oldest son from injecting crap into his veins and it's been quite the struggle for him and us.

I hear you. If you can imbibe and blaze in moderation, then what the heck. I guess the trouble is if it's extreme. I have a family member who is an alcoholic and tokes daily, throughout the day. Doctor said stop drinking or die, and he can't seem to stop. It's a real bitch when it's to that point. Prayers to you.cbass wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2019 3:54 pm its nothing like that man i always have a gun close by . its a no home invasion zone . just coming to realize im not gonna give up smoking and drinking. im disappointed in myself. but its better than being crazy. i figured after almost 8 weeks id at least feel better it just ain't happening. i enjoy having a puff and drinking some beer and working it is what it is.

I feel for you, Mark. Obviously, he can't clean up if he doesn't want to. But, when/if he does, then you being there to help will make the difference.
