Nut size on Mercury Magnetic transformers?

Post by Mark »

Hi

The screws used on the power transformer is 10/32" and the output transformer uses 8/32".

These are Vox transformers. I was going to buy hardware when I get asked the question are the screws UNC or UNF. I have no idea which one, can someoneanswer thus one for me?

This does remind me a bit of Monty Python where they get asked the speed of a swallow and I get asked African or European
Yours Sincerely

That's not a question that comes up often. Nor should it. The correct answer is you have one of each. :D

8-32 is UNC and 10-32 is UNF. But why did someone need to know that? All anyone needs to know is 8-32 and 10-32. Here's a table you can memorize to impress someone next time this question come round...

I agree, there's only one nut type that will fit a 8-32 machine screw and, and one type for a 10-32!
The only other question should be if you want integral lock washers or not on the nuts.

I rarely use plain nuts I mostly use keps nuts they have the external star washer attached.

Nylock nuts have their place but I do not use them often.

4/40, 6/32, 8/32, 10/24, & 10/32

Thanks for the replies. As I'm in Australia I typically use metric hardware. So I don't to use this sort of thing much. I will be using washers, lock washers and nyloc nuts. That should be sufficient precaution against vibration.

I feel your pain when I find out a chassis I have has metric threads so I have to go to my surplus store and get M bolts or nuts.
