Anyone that routs figured maple use compression router bits to avoid chip tearout?

did you ever try the compression bit? just curious to how things turned out

Not yet, i've been trying to get the chassis functional. Found i can't use back biasing with the choke loaded supply! I've found it's a great way to get 5AR4's to generate lightning however.
I 'll likely start making sawdust next week and report back .

Sorry i took so long cbass. Life got a little more complicated recently.
I tried the bit on some scrap for fun and it was a bitch to control initially. I elected not to use it however as i didn't have a bearing large enough. I used a new Bosch straight sided bit and it did well, the maple not figured enough to be a challenge apparently (the best part was routed out). I rounded over the face with a 1/4" bit. I need to even out the center planes and redo the roundover but the pic will give you the idea. I am replacing the rods with walnut rods finished natural ( the chassis has a walnut face and maple knobs)

looks good today's router bits are a lot better than they were ten years ago i don't think tearout will be a huge issue as long as you're taking small amounts of course there's always those pieces that tearout no matter what you do. i like the freud industrial bits not the Diablo ones same for saw blades
